Why is Canada so poor at inventing things?

Take a look at British inventions. The list is HUGE.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List...nd_discoveries

Now take a look at Canadian invention. The list is tiny.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List...ian_inventions

    Why is this?

Is it because Britain encourages a free market that is excellent at creating competition and innovation, whilst socialism stifles it?

It might help that the UK has 30 million more people (65 million vs. 35 million or so). You double a population, under the same circumstances, youd expect double the inventions if you controlled for everything else. That and Canada hasn't existed for hundreds of years.

Access to capital and universities is a huge reason.

The UK is one of the two big capital centers in the world (the US being the other). And it has one of the strongest groups of universities in Europe.

65 million people didnt invent these things though.

Only a handful of people did.

The UK has like 30 times the amount of innovation also, not merely double. Even in recent times.

I dont think those points you listed explain the huge gap.

Why does the UK have access to more capital?

Because London, like New York City, is home to some of the the world's biggest and most active investement banks (and investors) and occupies a key role in the global financial system.

That's in absolute terms. Per Capita, other big ones are Silicon Valley (San Jose specifically, crap city) and Boston, which are collectively also the most significant tech hubs in the world.

Money goes where tech is and tech goes where money is. It's a positive feedback loop. Canada doesn't have it. But so don't most countries in the world.

Apparently now the UK is some right wing paragon compared to socialist Canada. Pretty weak link, just trying to misuse information to cheer for your political view, like all of yous just excited about the brussels attacks because it proves that socialism is bad or something.

Don't forget that, till relatively recently, Canada was a part of the UK, so all inventions made there were counted as British at the time.

We invented maple syrup, hockey, good beer, poutine, great sex, and superman - then on the 7th day we rested.

How on earth did you reach that conclusion? Did you just draw your own conclusions out of thin air just to support your own narrative? There is literally nothing to indicated that socialism stifles innovation. In fact if you look at patent filings per capita there are socialist states in the top 10.

What creates this positive feedback loop?

    What stifles it?

Actually, looking at your two sources in recent times (from the 20th century) they're pretty even but also one link is for innovations and discoveries and one is for inventions, which means they aren't tracking the same stuff. Even with that disadvantage Canada is pretty close to the UK (in recent times) based on your sources so your premise is flawed which means I won't address the terrible explanation you have for it.

British soldiers invented Hockey while stationed in Canada you cant take credit for that. Good Beer is Germany, Native Indians discovered maple syrup and you can hardly claim great sex when India literally wrote the book on it.

Jerry Siegel an American invented superman when he was 17 after his dad died from a heart attack while fighting a robber trying to steal from his store. In his sadness Jerry created a hero that was bullet proof and fought for justice. Brad Meltzer the artist and co creator of the first comics came along a few years later and credits Siegel's loss with the creation of Superman.

I will give you credit for the jockstrap though.

No. It means you need money to turn a good idea into more than that. A lot of money.
