If you thought the Hobbit did "ok" for 2012-2014 movies, why would LoTR do any better? The Hobbit had 10+ years of technology ahead of LoTR and it didn't do much better with it.

That's my whole point the Hobbit did better than Lotr with orcs and such. You just said my point lol.

It did "better" by slightly and with 10+ years of better tech. Practical effects with CGI as enhancements would have been a much better option and given it a more authentic feel. Way too much reliance on CGI.
