    Graphics card upgrade?

Hello! I am planning to upgrade pieces of my computer but the graphics card is one part I know very little about on what should I look for.

I currently have AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series graphics card.
Now, I am soon thinking of upgrading my processor to an Intel Haswell Refresh, Core i5 4690K.

    Two questions:
    1. Does the processor support my old graphics card? I really need to know this as, if I could, I would not also replace my graphics card now.
    2. If it does, what motherboard would I need to support both the new processor and the old graphics card?
    3. If it does not... what graphics card would you suggest as an upgrade? In about 200 euros limit please. Please also say about how much of an upgrade it would truly be as if I'd pay 200 euros for something that is like 5% better, I'd rather rethink my processor choice back to AMD.

So the rig is primarily for gaming + some programming. I'm interested in playing games like Witcher 3 for example.

Right now what I can't upgrade is my memory, I have this:
    http://www.pcgarage.ro/memorii/hyper...l-channel-kit/

And my power source also can't upgrade, I have this:
    http://seasonic.com/product/g-650/

That said, I'm from Romania, which is why money is an issue and which is why I do not intend to upgrade my graphics card right now if possible.

This is a site we generally use for parts here(will post links for each part as you might have problems navigating if you don't know Romanian):
    http://www.pcgarage.ro/placi-de-baza/ - motherboards
    http://www.pcgarage.ro/procesoare/ - processors
    http://www.pcgarage.ro/placi-video/ - video cards

    1 euro = 4.5 RON.

    Thank you.

Yes, your old graphics card will work fine with any new CPU/Motherboard upgrade. However, why are you planning on getting a Haswell Refresh? Why not get Skylake?

You said euros, so I am going to assume UK. A 6600k can be had for about 10 euro more than a 4690k, so there is really almost no point in getting the 4690k.

UK does not use the Euro. =P

@Snowraven knowing which country you are in definitely helps, also what kinda games you want to play / what you use your pc for and what you existing hardware that you do not plan on upgrading is

countries using the euro in blue, green and purple (and some yellow apparently huhu): https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...pation.svg.png. i honestly though the uk was super-famous for not wanting to use the euro - the latest trend is the tory wankers wanting us to actually leave the eu altogether so they don't have to worry about that pesky european convention of human rights any more while they attempt to kill anyone who cannot work.

Well, that's a good question. Is there a motherboard that can support both the 6600k, my old graphics card and DDR3 memory?

    Also, I'm from Romania.

    There are two problems here.

    1) That site doesn't have the 4690K available
    2) They have DDR3 Z170 boards, however I think you need DDR3L ram, so you may end up having to buy ram regardless.

So you're either looking at getting new ram, or finding another site for the 4690K

    Isn't this it?
    http://www.pcgarage.ro/procesoare/in...90k-35ghz-box/

Also, just noticed that they also put a discount on the 6600k, would that work with the setup? DDR3 RAM, the graphics card I have etc?

DDR3 Z170 boards - this is what I should be looking for to make everything fit in, correct?

    I also found this: http://www.pcgarage.ro/placi-de-baza...h110m-combo-g/
Seems to use the right chipset, also supports both DDR3 and DDR4 memories, would this work with my graphics card too? For the 6600k.

Nope. If you're not required to work with money or the currencies themselves for a program, you're not required to know the currencies of each country. Plus, even if you did, everyone makes mistakes.

Now, back to the question if you can help :

It looks like that should work. I looked up that same motherboard on new egg and it says it supports DDR4 and DDR3/DDR3L, so it should. However, Skylake does actually make use of faster RAM speeds and if you are going to go Skylake it would be better to just get DDR4.

Out of curiosity, what is your current CPU/Motherboard?

    Awesome, thank you very much

Will probably replace the memory too, just not right now. But it's good to have the option for the future.

    I currently own the following:
    AMD Phenom II X4 955 processor - http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K10/AM...BGMBOX%29.html

    Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3 motherboard - http://www.pcgarage.ro/placi-de-baza...ga-ma770t-ud3/

Oh, don't worry, they're doing some promotion thing and they keep shuffling things around so it's kind of hard to check if you're looking for something in particular. I remember someone once giving me a link to a motherboard, went to the link then went to see prices around it and I couldn't find it where it should be because the site had moved it to another page.

RAM is pretty cheap, I am not sure, and I have a difficult time navigating that site, but the combo Motherboards should be more expensive than the ones that support DDR4 only. With the savings on the motherboard, you should be able to get the DDR4 RAM.

For example, here in the US, the Combo Motherboard is about $70. A DDR4 H110 board costs about $50. A decebnt 8GB stick of DDR4 RAM is about $30. So it's only $10 more to get a DDR4+8GB RAM then it is to get the Combo board and reuse your old RAM.

I understand that due to taxes and import fees that $10 can become a lot more though, I would look in to it though.

Thank you for the suggestion. Alas, RAM is not so cheap here. For example, my current DDR 3 16 GB RAM cost me about 90 euros (100$). Alas, this is about the price in my country and ordering from abroad only makes stuff cheaper by about 10-20 euros but... I also don't have the guarantee of things actually arriving as... well, let's just say that packages seem to disappear into a void sometimes when entering my country, which is why many companies don't even want deliver here from abroad. The safest thing that never gets stolen seems to be books, but I doubt that if I leave a comment for the company like "and hey guys, buy the cheapest book, cut a hole and put my RAM in there" they will actually do that
I checked prices, and DDR4 RAM would be about same price for 16 GB.
As for the Motherboard, I'd only save about 20 euros. Yeah, it would be nice, but for the moment I'd rather not spend the extra 70 euros. And would rather not risk ordering from abroad as I don't trust corruption at the border. The price of living in a country that thinks it's 1st world country when it's not.

You don't really need 16GB, 8 is still really more than enough. Since you were planning on upgrading RAM later anyway you could just get a 8 GB stick, then grab another 8 GB stick later. That would only be about 30 euros more?

    Just another option.
