Health care reform which the health care industry wrote? Right. Minimum wage increase in the face of coming robot automation falls flat on its face, the minimum wage could be 200 bucks an hour and companies won't need to hire a single person. Increasing tax rates which are always offset by schmooze deals brokered by bipartisan agreements?
There's something you're not buying, and its reality.
It talks about the plight of the white working class because of the acknowledgement that has existed for some time that the party is abandoning it, especially since it has worked in conjunction with the Republicans to buyoff the unions to not protest the shipping of jobs out to Mexico and other areas.
A level playing field only helps those who are playing on it, and the rich certainly aren't playing on the same field as the working class. There's only so high the working class can go in the current system so there's no avenue of mobility other than money and connections that matter.
The article is spot on.

That the Democratic establishment pays no more than lip service to the white working class is obvious and has been for decades. Essentially the US has always had two conservative parties presenting the illusion of choice-the only real choice is which capitalists and their stooges you want running things. It is no more or less democratic than the system in Iran where you get to decide which theocrat to act as the puppet/PR man of the state.
The notion that Trump is some kind of savior of the working class is asinine in the extreme, however. You'd have to be a real idiot to believe otherwise.

You people are so guillable. It is not the Mexicans that fucked you over-it is the bankers. You are so fucking shortsighted you think your ugly racial hatred is the solution to everything. It must be so easy being so easy to dupe people like you if you are a member of the ruling class-steal everyone's cash and throw them a racist bone and they fall over wagging their tails in the air.

Folly and fakery have always been with us... but it has never before been as dangerous as it is now, never in history have we been able to afford it less. - Isaac Asimov

I'm more than aware it's the bankers, but the simple fact is that manufacturing and auto jobs along with other union oriented jobs have been shifted to Mexico and elsewhere. You should actually read what I wrote before you kneejerk respond. It wouldn't matter where they were shipped, it's the fact that they were.

I don't see the shock in this. Democrats believe that the federal government should have more power and Republicans believe states should have more power. Both have Liberals and Conservatives, upper and lower class, politicians that cater to racists and extremists where it benefits them.
Being of a party doesn't necessarily exclude someone of other ideologies. This is a country where the individual is defined by what he or she has said and done, not where you make a judgement on them via someone tangentially related
Yes they have the right to protest, I wasn't criticizing that.
My point is about how most of them are content with being distracted by narrow causes. Occupy Wallstreet is probably the only one of their movements that wasn't primarily rooted in demographic and identity politics.
Who the fuck are these people? Seriously they are an absolute vocal minority who have the internet as a tool to give an illusion of voice. I see actual occasional crazies on US university campus that's all.
Speaking for myself from the left the thing I most give a shit about right now is the environment and climate change. I couldn't care less about new age feminism, safe spaces and "social justice" and would happily side with the right to make sure that sort of draconian society isn't forced upon us.
In any large population you can find some weirdos.
On the right there are small but significant numbers of neo-nazis. If the left behaved in the same manner as the right it would be relatively easy to just run non-stories about those people "Wyoming Republican celebrates HITLER'S BIRTHDAY". You can bet some lunatic somewhere is doing just that.
Left-wing publications tend not to use this strategy because their audience isn't as subject to emotionally potent over-simplification.

Money is now considered free speech. Those with the most money therefore speak the loudest and get the most attention.

Not to mention all the protests by religious folks when gay marriage was at stake and during all the religous freedom debates. There was a march of pastors at one point. Those silly leftists.

Oh yeah! What about Bundy and his crew? Those gosh darn SJWers.
Please show me any source from the past 30 years where the KKK or any other right wing group protested by riot or even disrupted normal day to day life for citizens. Both sides have their extremists but when it comes to public protesting, the left has close to a monopoly on violent protests.
Both parties already love to suck up to the big corps.
Enjoy your shitty 2-party system.
