i think it's kinda funny talking about "dead and gone" in a game where a bad day of progression raiding can lead to endless wiping.
Or, as the ghosts in the stormstout brewery said:

so if we can die and rezz after being killed by a player, it should be safe to assume that an old god can come back even after death.

Well, we actually know they can come back. They even hinted that with C'Thun at several times, and Cho'Gall himself was in touch with C'Thun well after the god's death.

The whole "They do not die" thing might be an exaggeration, but it's intended to have a basis in fact. The organs of Faceless Ones still pulse after they're killed. Zakajz has died and returned twice in his known history, which is why the Titans built tomb prisons for him and his lot despite there being no dangerous consequences for killing them. It's just that the bastards don't stay dead or are easily ressurectable.
