So she has discovered a moronically fancy way to say "I want a vacation / sabbatical"? Grats, I guess.

If you want time away from work, it's called "vacation."

And if you think that maternity leave is anything like "vacation" or "me time" then you don't know anything about having kids.

Maternity leave is not "me time" as the author claims. It's "baby time." You don't get a lot of "me time" while on maternity leave.

I don't deem it necessary to throw obscenities around whenever I don't think something is reasonable.
The vast majority here seems to agree that what she is asking for is unreasonable. Most people, however, manage to not immediately get super angry over it.

    Yup, she deserves equal pay.

Meh. I'd call her plenty stupid for promoting the idea that leaving early to pick up your child from school and leaving early to console your forever alone friend are comparable. That, and for thinking about how she deserves the same as the people balancing work and family.

Here's the difference between calling her stupid, and between what he said:

I somehow seem to manage not calling all men savage rapists when one of them does that. This guy however, couldn't make such distinctions.

She has the same opportunity to take maternity leave as a woman co-worker who has had a baby when she actually has a baby. She wants the time off without doing what it takes to actually get it.

She got a point in a way. not on the maternity leave, but on being expected to do more hours than people with kids. Actually that's a punchline I tell to my managers when I'm expected for no reason to do more hours : « Sorry, I have kids, house, you know, I must go. » Indeed they know I don't have kids, but what can you tell ?

Guess at 38 she realized this too and decided to try to get the days of anyways.

She hasn't got a point. At least not a valid one.

Well its Ultimately unfair that the state mandates other people subsidize some people's personal self fulfilment project.
Whether that is taking 6 months to binge netflix or have a kid is immaterial too me.

how so ? Do you feel it's normal to do overwork when you don't have any "social" excuse ?
