So I'm going to putting together my first every NAS system this weekend. My question is simple:
Is it required to install a hard drive that is "NAS Optimized" in the NAS system? Or will a standard hard drive work?
Bonus question: What are the ACTUAL benefits of a NAS optimized hard drive over a standard one for your average Joe who just wants to be able to sync files/pictures/movies between all connected devices? (ie: Not what the manufacturer's claims as silly benefits)
Standard drives are okay for most use cases, but if the price difference is small there isn't any reason not to go with most of the NAS drives. Small tweaks / component changes that might help the drive live longer and perform better. Some okay reading on it here: http://www.storagereview.com/pick_th...s_desktop_hdds
