    Why are neckbeards stigmatized online?

I see them getting a lot of flak online for no reason at all.

Easy pariah. They don't see a reason to defend themselves because of their self-shame.

    Who/what ISN'T stigmatized online...?

Isn't neckbeard sort of like saying "towel-head"?

What is a neckbeard anyway? How far down your neck does beard have to grow to be considered a neckbeard?

Is something like this a neckbeard? (not me btw)

No. "Towel-head" is a derogatory term for someone of middle east descent. "Neck Beard" is a derogatory term for a self righteous, pedantic, pretentious, usually overweight male with an unusual amount of hair on his neck because they are overweight and their "chins" look like they are part of their neck.

One is a racist term, the other is a term used to describe a type of person that no one likes.

Neckbeards are stigmatized because they are a sign of laziness.

You mean Fedora on anyone under age 40*

Frank Sinatra pulled that shit off because he was a weathered gentleman.

    Please do elaborate.

I have one (really completes the Andrew Luck thing I got going). I shave if frequently, it grows back so fast that i'm back to pre-shave status 4 days later.

People want to feel better about themself, so they hate something that they don't see as them.

This is what I think of when I hear neckbeard:

Probably because it's the stereotype of the fat, lazy, women-hating-gamer on the internet.

Its easy to hate someone who might be considered ugly. Which a fat person with a neckbeard is to most people.

Still. Shave your neck and your beard will look a lot better overall. Trust me. Grooming helps a shit-ton anyways.

    /thread

But mmo-chan wants me to put 10 chars, so I also add that people do that for a lot of things.

Gosh, at least I am not like one of those freaking norm-people.

GIS reveals so wide an array of beards that I am not sure what a neckbeard is actually.

I thought men just had beards; long, short, scruffy, goatee and scooped.

Whatever kind of beard this is:

    Super hot.

    This is hot too:

    Beards are cool.

Wasn't there a character named neckbeard somewhere? Maybe not.
