has firefall been taken down completely?

The servers, website and forums have been taken down without notice for hours now. no official statement on twitter or facebook regarding the issue.

people speculating on reddit that the game have been canceled for good, The9 cutting ties with Red5 studios and abandoning the sinking ship.



I hope this isn't true however. I played the game a lot some years ago, but left because i felt like the game wasn't being developed in a positive way. However, after hearing that they fired Mark, me and a friend started talking about the game again, and tried it out. Now we've played for a few days, and it seems decent enough so far, but the servers just shutting down like that doesn't feel very good.

Site works for me, so does the forums. Seems like a temporary tech hiccup, but glad to see folks on reddit are as reasonable and unwilling to jump to extreme conclusions as always : )

I'd be surprised, I don't think I've visited either one on my work computer in like...ever. I know I've never been to the forums, doubt I've been the the main page.

That was the only other explanation I have, but I'm using Google as my primary DNS :P

But, Firefall is indeed not known by DNS. I guess IP still works.

There's some interesting articles about it , Firefall is that game that you saw everywhere but it got like nowhere. I'm not even sure if it was playable to the public? I imagine it was to some degree , I recall seeing it at a convention a few good years ago.

It was playable for years in "closed" beta, which was very easy to get in, under Kern. But it was playable in the sense that entire systems were routinely seeing overhauls and being rebuilt from the ground up every 3-4 months. They did a ton of marketing/promotion around it during this time as Kern was apparently great at fundraising, but eventually the board got rid of him as CEO since the game was getting stuck in perpetual beta (though open beta at that time) and wasn't making any real progress towards launch, not to mention there being tons of apparent/rumored internal issues.

No need for the doom and gloom.
We have just had a content patch for it, and one that actually went pretty smoothly compared to the last.
It has its issues certainly, but isn't dead by a long way.
Personally I wasn't expecting much more progress, and didn't expect this content patch for quite some time, if ever.
But I was wrong.
And I was someone actually playing it, instead of reading old or second to third hand information.

I have been, and am still playing it regularly.
The future of it is in my view looking more promising than it has been in a while.
