US toddlers have shot 23 people so far this year

We were taught never to touch the guns unless an adult was around. I wonder if this is a cultural thing? Parents not knowing how to handle guns around kids?

this type of thing happens more often than you might think. Since April 20, there have been at least seven instances in which a 1- , 2- or 3-year-old shot themselves or somebody else in the United States:

On April 20, a 2-year-old boy in Indiana found the gun his mother left in her purse on the kitchen counter and fatally shot himself.
The next day in Kansas City, Mo., a 1-year-old girl evidently shot and killed herself with her father's gun while he was sleeping.
On April 22, a 3-year-old in Natchitoches, La., fatally shot himself after getting hold of a gun.
On April 26, a 3-year-old boy in Dallas, Ga., fatally shot himself in the chest with a gun he found at home.
On April 27, the Milwaukee toddler fatally shot his mother in the car.
That same day, a 3-year-old boy in Grout Township, Mich., shot himself in the arm with a gun he found at home. He is expected to survive.
On April 29, a 3-year-old girl shot herself in the arm after grabbing a gun in a parked car in Augusta, Ga. She is also expected to survive.

Last year, a Washington Post analysis found that toddlers were finding guns and shooting people at a rate of about one a week. This year, that pace has accelerated. There have been at least 23 toddler-involved shootings since Jan. 1, compared with 18 over the same period last year.

We should arm their teddy bears...

At least we now have some data; because it already felt like a news like this popped up once a week. Not too far off I guess...

You need toddler control. Only smart people should have the right to have them around their guns.

I grew up around guns...I never shot myself or my parents...it's amazing how far teaching a child that they're not toys and taking safety precautions can really go!

To bad there aren't any intelligence tests for owning a gun...

This is so sad! I have kids that are 2 and 4 and the thought that other children their age have access to guns is terrifying. It makes me not want to have guns anywhere in my home even if they are locked up well. I hate that practically every time I log online there is some trending topic about a kid who got a gun and accidentally killed someone with it.

Godless killing machines, that's why i'll never make one of those.

Millions of gun owners, I can't believe every single one of them don't follow gun safety rules. The world has gone crazy, crazy I tell ya

If you don't feel you can be responsible enough to lock up your guns, then yeah I agree, don't buy one.

Clearly the solution is to arm all kids so they can protect themselves. There is no way to control this in another way, as kids who want to get a gun will get it illegally either way.

Thats the problem here. The last article I read the kid was in the back seat of the car, not in a car seat, and there was a loaded gun just laying on the floor board. Thats the most ridiculous and irresponsible thing Ive read so far out of all the articles Ive read.

We need to give the good guy toddlers a gun so they can protect themselves from bad guy toddlers.

The only thing that can stop a bad toddler with a gun is a good toddler with a gun. So we should arm everyone under the age of 5.

So what percentage of the US population (320,000,000 million) is that?

Of course the title wouldn't be as exciting had it been "0.000007187% of the US population is shot by toddlers every year"

More people have been killed by elephants so far this year. Guess we should just make them extinct.

Whatever, its a click bait post over a 0.000007187% specific type of death rate.

Why is this such a difficult concept to grasp? Don't fucking leave a loaded gun where a kid can find it!

Obviously they need more guns to protect themselves from the toddlers.
