They're excellent anxiety and stress relievers, with a side-benefit of being fun to do.
"We're more of the love, blood, and rhetoric school. Well, we can do you blood and love without the rhetoric, and we can do you blood and rhetoric without the love, and we can do you all three concurrent or consecutive. But we can't give you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory. They're all blood, you see." ― Tom Stoppard, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead

These colouring books could contain pretty elaborate pictures and allows for a positive outlet for creative energy while only incurring modest costs. Apparently, they're quite relaxing to participate in. Not my thing... but, whatever they make some people happy.

I went to an adult coloring party a few weeks ago that my friend invited me to. It was fun. We all sat around with booze and chatted while coloring in our stuff.
'Twas a cutlass swipe or an ounce of lead
Or a yawing hole in a battered head
And the scuppers clogged with rotting red
And there they lay I damn me eyes
    All lookouts clapped on Paradise
All souls bound just contrarywise, yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!

Coloring in, helps you forget about other shit going on in the World
or with ones life.. It focuses your mind on something else.

“When choosing a colouring-in book with more complex or abstract images the convention is generally to keep different colours within different lines.
This requires a relaxed focus where the outline is containing and the mark-making repetitive and smooth.
So a bit like repeating a mantra where repetition is a means to relaxation, colouring-in is also a type of mediation.”

“Meditation, whether secular or otherwise, has known benefits to mind, body and spirit.
When focusing deeply on a simple yet safe task, other anxieties become less present, less pervasive.”

I can't see the appeal but I hear they're good stress relievers. Won't knock it till I try it because my current consumption of alcohol and smoking definitely isn't a better substitute.

Once again society steps in and says "COLORING IS ONLY FOR CHILDREN!!!"

Coloring is fucking great. Even coloring kid stuff like barbies and shit :>

EDIT: I mean, I'm not going to find an "Adult" (XXX) coloring book and color in the dick all fine and cute. I just like coloring. o.o

They are relaxing. I usually color with my kids in their coloring books. But on a side note, I usually do my own drawings and color them in.
Yes, I draw my own avatars.

Why not? Do a Google image search for "coloring books for adults" and tell me if you think a child would have the patience/desire to do that.

I mean hell, comic colorists basically make a living doing that.

Because what - coloring is for kids?

Coloring is fun as hell, everything fun you did as a kid is probably still fun today - there's no reason to hide behind "hey, I'm an adult now" argument.

http://hangar646.pl/ - adult-oriented recreation center mostly focused on springboards and foam pools, because why the fuck not.

I'm a grown man and I fucking love foam pools, deal with it. And I love coloring.

Plenty of non-gamers would say the same thing about video games for adults as well........

Just let people enjoy what they enjoy.

As someone who plays video games as a primary hobby, what's wrong with that? It's not my thing but whatever your stress reliever is, go for it. My sister is a huge fan of these. It's just something to sit and relax with like I do with games or some people do with TV or books.

I enjoy them. I also have an app on my phone that has some complex coloring pages. It's soothing to just relax and color. (Though I wouldn't recommend it if you are a passenger in a moving vehicle. When I was younger, I was coloring and it made me quite sick, headache and all.)

Who said coloring is just for kids?

    Seriously...

That like asking "video games...for adults..."

    or "<activity>...for adults..."

If you're an adult then you can do whatever the fuck you want.

Coloring as an "adult" is almost as bad as playing a video game as an "adult" some would say.
