Anyone read any of them and know a good starting off point ?

Warhammer or 40k?

Warhammer i'd recommend the Malus Darkblade series by Mike Lee or Gotrek and Felix series by William King , 40k i'd recommend Gaunts Ghosts by Dan Abnett.

I kinda wish they had a giant lorebook or two for both series. I'm not into the games too much but I like the lore.

Try basically anything from Dan Abnett. Also the Ciaphas Cain series is fucking amazing.

Well, I know about the wikis and stuff but at the same time, I like physical copies of stuff like Hyrule Historia or The Book of Cain/Tyrael stuff, heh.

I could get stuck for hours on lexicanum before i started buying books, there was always something more interesting you would click on lol there is so much lore it's ridiculous.
