Cincy Zoo kills critically endangered gorilla to save boy

The Cincinnati Zoo shot and killed a 17 year old critically endangered lowland gorilla after a boy slipped into its enclosure. What are your thoughts on this? Should zoos intervene and kill endangered species when people decide to enter their enclosures?

Considering it was older than the Child and endangered, kind of silly to kill the Gorilla.

They said the tranqs would take minutes to take effect, and then it might be too late.

because while the tranq takes its time to take hold, you'll have an irritated gorilla that got stung.

Such a shame, anyone who falls into an animal enclosure should be fair game not like we're critically endangered.

For compensation and punishment the boy should take the place of the gorilla in the exhibit.

Not people, idiot children that can't help themselves from climbing on everything (like primates, ironically).

Shame, natural selection was sabotaged once again...

I hope that family got a lifetime ban from entering the zoo.

I did. He had the kid for 10 minutes. Plenty of time for a tranq to take effect. I call bullshit on that excuse though since they can drop an elephant in a couple of minutes with the right drugs.

The animal didn't ask to be captive. Humans should accept any and all consequences of going to a zoo especially parents who don't watch their kids. Humans aren't endangered either.

It was just an animal. No big deal.

Well, I'm sure the zoo lost a lot of money and the family should of course pay the zoo for it.

We are animals too and we aren't endangered.

Gotta be careful, the audience here tonight is edgier than a 20-sided dice.

Of course they did the right thing. How that is even a question is mind-boggling to me.

I live near there, was quite a shock to say the least. If anyone is interested, here's moments before they had to put it down, with the child:

The video on that new site is non-graphic, pretty sure. As a father of a 4 year old, I could hardly bare to watch it regardless... :S

Don't do the whole "We're animals, it's the Law of the Jungle".

That ultimately leads to, "We're the baddest mother fuckers on the planet, don't attack us", and that doesn't end well for...well, any animal that isn't a human.

so basically, the gorilla had the boy for 10 minutes taking him around the enclosure, better just kill the endangered gorilla since he obviously was going to attack the child, even though he didn't..... FOR 10 FUCKING MINUTES. smh

should have fucking tranq darted him and had someone with a gun ready incase something ACTUALLY happened

it appeared the boy went under the rail, through wires and over the moat wall.
    seriously wtf

Child Services should take the Child. Because if he is able to crawl into a Gorilla Enclosure, we clearly can see that the parents are unfit.
Furthermore the Family should compensate the Zoo.
