Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness Releases Tomorrow

Anyone hype'd? been a huge fan of this series since the PS1. So far Till the end of Time has been my favorite of the series.

Any thoughts about this game coming out? any one else share the hype?

Should have my copy arriving tomorrow, looks really good. Going to be a tough choice on which to play through first this month, Star Ocean, Tokyo Mirage Sessions or Grand Kingdom.

Regardless of actual quality, I am willing to bet some money that it is going to fail hard outside of Japan. Something from NIS or Atlus slipping out to a group of dedicated fans is one thing, but I have seen pretty much absolutely no hype or advertisements for the game from Square until maybe a week or two ago, and that was more in the form of "hey weeb, dont forget this thing comes out this month!". Hopefully they dont have high expectations for it outside of Japan and are mainly going to look at domestic sales when it comes to deciding if they want to do a 6th game in another 10 years.

I have no faith in this game, and with is being sandwiched between Tokyo Mirage Sessions and Setsuna not sure I care how it turns out either.

JRPGs today have changed alot since i was growing up. Alot of Complex and unnecessary play styles unlike the ones that came out for SNES, PS1 and PS2.

I completely forgot about this game, honestly. I may buy it at some point but I can't say I'm super excited about it. I did like Star Ocean 3 quite a bit though.

"Complex" is not a word I would associate with a JRPG almost ever...

Even the ones like Star Ocean and Tales with action based combat systems are really simple at their core. Difficulty always comes down to how much you grind, how well you're equipped and how well you know what the enemy is going to do. Not like we got fighting game execution going on here lol...

And if you just want turn based or atb JRPGs they still exist... Been absent on consoles for awhile but Tokyo Mirage Sessions, Setsuna, World of Final Fantasy and Persona 5 are fixing that.

I'm...cautiously hyped. Star Ocean 2/Second Story is among my top 10 favorite games of all time, but I haven't cared much for any of the Star Ocean games that came after it. Star Ocean 3 and 4 just didn't pull me in the way Second Story did.

I'll probably give this one a chance, but I think I'll wait for it to go on sale down the road or grab a used copy at Gamestop. Not going to jump in on day one.

Have my copy of the collector's edition being shipped to Australia. Probably won't arrive till sometime next week, but I'm looking forward to it. Star Ocean has never been a groundbreaking JRPG title. But it has always had a niche or cult following that's made it fairly popular, hoping more will come out after this one.
    Main toon: Priest
Alts: Rogue, Druid and Paladin plus many, many more.

Having played the JP version a few months back, I'd caution people to go into this with very tempered expectations. They have some interesting combat innovations and gorgeous environmental graphics, but there are also a lot of major shortcomings including a shocking lack of content for a Star Ocean game. There are glimmers of loving craftsmanship to be found here and there, but with how rushed the whole experience feels I can't help feeling like they pushed it out the door way too early just to get a flagship RPG released on the PS4 sooner rather than later.

Love the series, i even enjoyed the last hope, call the cops they cant stop me. Though i've heard not good things about this one. Lack of content, dull gameplay, censorship for the west audiences frail gaijin sensibilities, crippling save bugs. It just screams 'wait and let others play the role of testers before you buy' for me.

God knows after FF13 you can't trust SE with a jrpg just because of the brand name attached. So i'll wait and see for now hoping its a more traditional feeling experience as damn near every other 'jrpg' lately has been some bland button mash action combat game in disguise.

I was thinking complex as in how the battle system in the Tales Series evolved over the years, I bought Tales of Zestiria with my PS4, it was a great game but if you compare it with its predecessor Tales of Phantasia (also a great game) the "complexity or style of battle system isn't needed.

Star Ocean 3 lost my interest when the game turned into "A video game inside a video game" prior to finding out their universe was a Video game the story and game play was amazing. Star Ocean 4 was OK but they could of done better with the story in my Opinion. Star Ocean 2 on the other hand, So Good!. Prime example of what we are missing from classic RPGs this is one of the games that i have played over numerous times while making different decisions along the way while getting different endings.

Just pre-ordered my copy of the limited edition today (Which according to the guy in EB is the only one listed, lol). from what I can see it misses a few items the collectopr's edition has, and seems to have the option to play battle music from SO1-4 (Whereas limited edition only has the option for valkyrie profile music I believe)

I'm looking forward to it, tho I'm disappointed it seems to have zero ties to the rest of the series. One of the things I liked most about SO4 was the direct shout outs to SO1 (It's also a reason I was a bit disappointed with 3 when I 1st played it, as it was basically just as disconnected from 2nd story as 5 seems to be from the rest).

I did laugh a bit when I saw they were setting the game before 3 timeline wise, I guess they don't wanna touch on the SO universe post 3's reveal, heh.

    5/10 from Gamespot

    http://www.gamespot.com/reviews/star.../1900-6416457/

Disappointing. I generally don't play games unless they get at least a 7 unless I have history with the series and want to find out for myself. I don't have any history for Star Ocean so it looks like I'll never play it.

I have it, and currently playing it right now it's not to bad but maybe my standards are lower then most visually it's good story wise it seems strong up to now, Only 4 hours or so in.

But one thing I will say is don't let what others have said about this game or any game for that matter put you off it, Just because someone on the internet doesn't like it doesn't mean you won't like it to.

Sure Gamespot give it a 5/10 but then the player ratings for it is 7.5/10 so just decide for yourself if you want to play this game and don't be put off by what people say or what you read about it.

A quote from Gamespot comment section on the review off this game:

Being a JRPG fan for a long while, this review is kinda bull. I saw the 5 and expected the review to point major broken mechanics, bad dub, or game breaking glitches. Instead it got a 5 because it's too much like a traditional JRPG.

GameSpot has been kinda shitty in terms of reviews lately, especially their review scores seeming to match up with the actual content of the written review. And Alexa is awful. I enjoyed her "LET'S TALK ABOUT ALL THE JAPANESE GAMES!" segment during the GameSpot E3 show that ended up being, "Let's say nothing of interest about the 3-4 big games from Japanese developers and say a few Japanese words and giggle."

I'd see what other reviews are saying, I know it's not great but Gamespot is kinda shite.

Polygon gave it a 5, Gameinformer gave it a 5, and Destructoid gave it a 6.

I was mildly interested in the game when I saw it at last year's E3, but the negative reviews have killed any excitement I had. If you guys are fans of the series and are enjoying it, then more power to you.

Sorry you can't come with the cop out that it's getting bad reviews because it's a JRPG, Tokyo Mirage Sessions just came out on friday and got good to great reviews from these same sites.

Game reviewed and sold poorly in Japan as well.

Time to accept the game is a bust, instead of letting your thirst for a JRPG cloud your judgement.

My copy came in this morning (currently at work) and its sitting on my desk taunting me and telling me to go home early.

The only thing that i'm looking for to classify this as a good game is:

    1) Story - if it makes sense and carries through the game properly, (Unlike FF8 where the story changes every couple hours) .
    2) The Game doesn't revolve around its Battle system.
    3) Multiple Endings, New Game Plus or other Incentives to play the game over again.
    4) No Game shop. having to buy skins, bonus missions, expansions etc, separately is complete bullshit and shouldn't be a thing. If there were anything Updates of DLC it should be for bug fixes and/or Software themes that don't actually affect the game play at all.

My standards aren't set to high as I'm used to the games that been coming out lately have been pretty dull in comparison to the games of our past.

It's not only for western, they even censored the japanese version because of the western release.
This have caused japanese fans to outright hate us, and blame us for all the bullshit.

This hugely killed the sales in Japan, so yeah.
Not going to buy the game, censored shit is censored.

I don't understand why people don't get the concept "If you don't like. Don't buy it"

Parents who refuse to let children play games because of the content in thinking it changes how they react (I.E. Grand Theft Auto) but they can easily get access to Pornographic material or Gory Horror Films, while anyone of them gets stabbed at the school and they blame video games. but its Ok for their kids to play sports that require physical contact. Football is a good example the basic idea of the game is take their land by force.

Then comes a time a video game comes out and a character has revealing underwear?! are they afraid they kids are going to start going to school commando? because this has been a thing way before video games coming out.
