It's a good image, but the circumstances are quite different to Tiananmen Square.

For a start - we're able to have this discussion without it being blocked.

It also shouldn't need to be compared to other non-violent protest images. It stands up on its own. Rather than the "new tank man" this image should be the "current Baton Rouge protester".

There is a very clear video of the shooting. He was pinned face up on the ground, his right hand was loose. One of the police officers grabbed the loose hand, pulled out his gun with the other hand, said something along the lines of, "If you move, I swear to god..." The guy got his hand loose from the police officer, and that second he was shot by the officer who had a gun placed on his chest at the time. It's unclear to me if it was intentional or if his finger just slipped, but the dead guy wasn't going for a gun from what I could see.

I really get tired of hearing that something "has gone viral" We lived in an internet age where everything is just a click away. Everything is viral at this point..

I don't see the big deal about this photo and it's laughable to compare it to the T-Square photo. It is a great photo if you want to paint the narrative that you have a strong woman standing up to the evil police, even though that's not what is happening here.Well, I guess if you think the police are all evil, then maybe so.

Now if you'll excuse me, there are 22 other pictures and videos that just went viral and I need to check them out as well.
