You think homosexuality is not frowned upon, but it is.

There's a reason the Religious Right is frequently called the "American Taliban."

This hard-on they have for attacking homosexuals is only the tip of the iceberg as far as harmful legislation goes, just wait until you see what they have coming down the queue.

I think this is the part everyone agrees on. You're not really allowed to pick and choose which parts of the teachings of Jesus Christ you follow. Also...what did Jesus say about homosexuality, again? I'm pretty sure it was nothing.

There are literally more verses in the Bible that condemn eating pork than condemn homosexuality.

Its just an excuse for bigotry. They hate "the other" and this is their justification for it. If they were actually practicing Christianity they would be washing the feet of the poor, helping the needy in all the ways they can, and leaving judgement to God as Jesus told them to do. The overriding message the son of God (if you believe that) left Christians with was "love thy neighbor" not "hate anyone different to you".

There was a wonderful quote in Hellblazer that summed it up well, but I can't find it right now.

Basically - a lot of people don't enjoy their lives and have a ton of stuff that makes them miserable, but that they are not willing to or are unable to change. Having something outside to hate and blame makes them feel better.

    Bingo.

Conservatives in the US don't help by pandering to the lowest common denominator of our society and making them feel justified in their bigotry.

News flash: whether you promote it or frown at it, it's not going to change that gay people don't want to fuck the opposite gender. It will do absolutely nothing to change population rates either way, unless you're suggesting we make people so repressed and afraid to admit they might be gay that they're willing to put on a lifetime facade simply to pump out kids.

In the meantime, gays can adopt and take care of children that otherwise would have a shitty life.

An amendment offered by the Family Research Council’s Tony Perkins in the subcommittee on healthcare, education, and crime offered support for the controversial practice of “conversion therapy” for children who identify as LGBT.

An official part of the 2016 GOP platform is that they believe parents should be legally allowed to subject their children to abusive, completely medically unnecessary therapies.

It's weird how all these organizations with "family" in the title seem to be the most anti-family. Between this and trying to dismantle non-standard families to keep those kids in the orphanage where they belong.

Don't forget forcing young girls and women to carry the products of rape and incest to term while simultaneously gutting social safety nets for mothers and newborns.

Like I have said before, if you look at the legislative agendas of conservatives in the US, what they actually attempt to enshrine in law, it seems as though they are trying to cause as much harm to US citizens as possible.

I'm aware, I commented on another thread about this.

Are you for real? I'm pretty fucking sure we do know the answer to that. You'll never find a kid who would rather have no loving parents than gay parents. Do you know how much kids with no parents suffer? They see friends have parents who care for them and give them a home. While they live in group homes and have no hope whatsoever of being adopted if they're above like 10 years old. But you think it's up in the air on this issue. Do you think being gay means they'll molest their kids? I know many religious zealots do and I always think of them as perverts who must be sexually attracted to their own opposite sex kids.

The Republican Party is going to have to move forward on this issue sooner or later. Thankfully it has quite a bit. I mean look at politicians such as Santorum and Huckabee. They were total jokes this election season. No one is going to support uber religious assholes like them anymore.
