If you want to leave a building, but have no idea where the door is, isn't it nice if someone opens it for you, so you can then leave?

Exactly like that, you can invoke the article the first thing on Monday.

So, you really do think all ties were supposed to be severed the instant the vote passed.

    That is just precious.

No, that's when the article is invoked, which should be done if they intend to leave, instead of screwing around with it.

Who is the one that is supposed to be holding the door open in your analogy? It can't be the EU, as they are powerless to do anything about Article 50 and it can't be Britain, as we are the ones leaving.

Is it those who voted to leave?

I think the more likely outcome is that the UK does a so-called "non-Brexit" Brexit. That is, formally leaving the European Union but remaining in the European Economic Area meaning that virtually every EU law already in existence will remain in place and future ones will have to be implemented. For businesses and the economy this will mean nothing changes. For the lunatics who voted leave, who obviously did so more from an emotional standpoint rather than a rational one, and who doesn't really understand what the EU is or how it works anyway, will be none the wiser and happily think that you have exited the "undemocratic and bureaucratic" Union and taken back your "sovereignty", when in fact all you did was stay albeit stripping yourself of your democratic representation in the Union. Then after a decade or so Labour and the LibDems can point this fact out and win a referendum to re-enter the EU, which will then pretty much have everything remain the same economy-wise just that you re-gain your democratic representation in the Union.

Hopefully during this period of time the EU can improve itself, as the UK has been a bit of a party pooper when it comes to improving the EU.

It's supposed to be the EU. And the point is, that after you want to leave the building, but still haven't figured out where the exit is, maybe it should be pointed out to you. Or even kindly enough to escort you out, to make sure you found your way out.

The exit is known. Just boxing everything up and making sure nothing is missing while laughing at the people salty about Exit winning.

We even saw that the demographics of who voted stay over who voted to remain were divided down lines of age. Old farts who are dying in 20 years and who won't be affected by staying or remaining voted to leave the EU largely. Young people who will be bearing the consequences of this largely voted to remain.

Hey now, they said they haven't cut all their ties. It's going to take at least another 10-15 years to say "goodbye" to everyone in the gym.

At which point they might decide they do like it there after all.

We have paid our membership fee, the EU cannot kick us out, we will go when the time is right for us, we have no need to rush.

While I think it was dumb decision on a grand scale, the exit won. But get on with it then instead of jerking around with it. That's the only salty part.

Those young people were too fucking lazy to get off their arses and vote, so screw them.

Best not delay then, all of the old people who pushed the vote over the threshold are dying soon. If you have to call another vote because it's been too long, it might not go the same way.

And why shouldn't the EU get the same democratic vote about it?

Nay. The people trying to rush it while screaming about old farts only wanting it own the salt flats on this one.

Because the EU created Article 50 and did not give the EU that right? Not our fault, blame the EU for that.

We could let the UK stay and kick out the eastern countries instead, no one needed them anyway.

I'm sure there's some article which can be used to remove a problematic member. That is pretty much what UK is right about now. You have no intention of staying, but you are delaying and screwing around with it instead. Get it over with.

How about a vote for deciding if the remain voters were of legal voting age? They've remained sounding childish this whole time.
