One could argue just the opposite is happening. And I know it is still too early for polls to mean that much, but this one from Gravis http://www.realclearpolitics.com/doc..._July_2016.pdf show Trump actually leading Hillary slightly. A month ago, most polls showed Hillary with large leads. I still think it will be a close race, with the swing states playing a major role in the outcome.
On topic, Trump simply wants more NATO countries to pay more for their own defense. That would be good for the US. After all, put Americans first, is one of his main slogans.
Because our armed forces are ill-equiped, our fighters (CF-18) obsolete and our navy unable to protect our own coasts. When you are part of an alliance, you must be able to do your part, proportional to your means. Canada is one of the most prosperous countries in the world and should be able to do better. Afterall, defense is one of the jurisdiction of the federal government, not healthcare. The federal should improve our armed forces and stop telling the provinces what they should do with healthcare.
Still, Donald Trump is a loud, offensive (insert any derogative noun) with an inflated ego. He should get a crash course on diplomacy 101 on how to speak to his allies. A superpower like USA cannot allow itself to be isolationist. It needs allies because allies means more influence and can even give a moral caution to its actions. A multilateral action is far better in our multipolar world that a unilateral action that has not been approved by UN, NATO or other allies.
"Je vous répondrai par la bouche de mes canons!"
this is another place i agree with trump. don't pay up, fuck off.
canada's a shitshow right now anyway, with your overly liberal weakness. maybe watching your own back for a while would strengthen you.
trump is right. nato requires you to pay 2% of your gdp towards national defense. if you dont why should you be defended if you wont defend yourself? free american defense has been relied upon for far too long and its time the rest of the alliance ponied up.
