What, no Jill Stein Megathread?
NEW LONDON — Jill Stein, the Green Party candidate for president, visited Connecticut Thursday pitching herself as "plan B" for disaffected Bernie Sanders supporters.
"Now we can join forces because a revolutionary campaign needs a revolutionary political party and that's what we bring to the table today," she told a small crowd gathered in the Garde Gallery downtown. Sanders, the Vermont senator who energized progressives with his insurgent campaign, last week endorsed Hillary Clinton, the presumptive Democratic nominee.
Asked in an interview with The Courant before the event if Sanders supporters flocking to her campaign would hurt Clinton's chances against Donald Trump in November, Stein said the American people "are clamoring for someone who is not Hillary and not Donald."
"The idea that politicians have a new form of entitlement called the right to your vote? Hillary Clinton doesn't own anybody's votes, she's got to earn those votes," Stein said. "And by all appearances, she's not earning those votes."
