Rightfully so. I'm starting to feel more and more like everyone is just dealing with a troll at this point.

I'm ok with having a discussion. I'm not ok with someone playing victim just because said discussion isn't going their way. Especially trying to play the mental disability card. It's insulting to people with actual mental disabilities.

That "x" button has, always, meant something along the lines of No, bugger off, not interested & so on, yet micro$haft cheated by changing it to mean "oh sure, install away".

    Not just games either...

as i said it was a bit misleading, however the x just means that you close the window, and not reading what a popup is telling you is just bad

Well, use DISM to remove them from the install image.

Hm I didn't know about this, interesting, I wonder if anyone has made a windows 10 image that is a cleaner version with only the minimal requierements for a functioning OS?

FWIIW it appears you can still get a free upgrade if you are using assistive technology on windows (or claiming that you are).

/shrug. I'm primarily a gamer, and most of my games are either Blizzard titles or Steam games (I also very rarely jump on those "AAA" $60+ titles right away). I don't think DX12 is really something I'll have to worry about for a while. My Windows 7 machine with an SSD is working just fine for me now. And Windows 7 will continue getting security updates for a few more years, so I'm fine for now. I installed GWX Control Panel on this system a long time ago because I got tired of the nagging.

I won't be doing much else with this system in terms of upgrades until I have the money for a complete rebuild (motherboard is aging), and by that point, I would've had to buy Windows 10 anyway.

If nothing else, at least this will make those "OMG I WOKE UP THIS MORNING AND MY COMPUTER LOOKS DIFFERENT AND [insert some program here] IS GONE WTF HAPPENED" calls go away for a while. Although I will be fair and say that most of those were easy (it's pretty simple to walk even some of the most dense users through finding that "Go back to Windows ___" button over the phone). Those only got "fun" when the users waited more than a month to call me about it.

Do you use CTRL - C?
win10 is free for those that do

    https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows10/c..._an_assistive/

Here's a link which by Microsoft's own definition, lists keyboard shortcuts as "built-in assistive technologies in Windows 10." https://www.microsoft.com/enable/products/windows10/

"Time is running out" and "Get yours before it's gone" is just a popular effective marketing strategy. Apparently by their own definition we all use Windows 10 build-in assistive technologies simply by pressing CTRL-C, therefore we still qualify for Windows 10: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/acce...ndows10upgrade

One problem Windows 10 users have experienced is that removing apps and changing settings won't stay like that. If you remove Candy Crush for example, it'll come right back after a update. Disabled a bunch of Windows 10 settings? They'll turn right back on after a update. So even if you install a cleaner Windows 10, the Windows update will fix that.

A lot of the problems with Windows 10 is how little control you have over the OS. Microsoft is removing Group Policy in Windows 10 Pro.

so if they remove Gpedit its gonna be alot harder to edit registry settings, unless you know what your doing in regedit, or trust 3rd party programs which disable things for you which i wouldnt trust,i would not trust a 3rd party program to disable stuff in the inner depths of my pc registry

I don't think there is anything constructive coming out of this back and forth arguing at this point.

    Closing.
