That is a specific Gay Stereotype that is still in use at times today it's known as Hard Gay http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.ph...m=Main.HardGay

are you serious? its obviously a joke. have you never seen that stereotype before?

  4. #4
Yes that is how everyone thought every gay person ever was back then, and by no means a comical stereotype character in a stupid side-scrolling brawler.

Still in use today, especially in eastern games/media.

All this is, is someone trying to get offended over something meant to make you laugh. Sure hope they never watch South Park.

Isn't it also a Japanese type trope?

Those kind of overtly gay characters are pretty common in anime.

from the ones ive encountered, yes they are all like that.

Yeah, it's super weird to stereotype gays as flamboyant type people, most gay men in mainstream media don't do this to themselves at all. Also, who exactly is the "they" you're talking about? Sega? People in the 90s? Japanese people? If it was instead a Lithuanian black guy who sold ice cream, would you assume Sega/people of the time felt that's what most Lithuanian black guys do, based on one character in a video game? Or, are you just grasping at some straws in order to start a thread.

    That's not "early gaming"

That character was censored out of the original American version, sadly.

Its more a overly pointed out clichee than an stereotype; the overly flamboyant 70`s Gay who adaptet the clone look and hits on everything that isnt on a three count on the next tree. Every gay i know doesnt act or dress that way unless they want to troll some one.

Did they really assume gay men were like this?
Im quoting Cheeki here; Clichees exist for a reason.

That wasn't an assumption thats actually how all gay men looked and acted back then. You know the story in star trek how the klingons lost their ridges and stuff to look like they did in the original series? That actually happened IRL when the FDA introduced a drug called "gay away" to the food supply. Now there are all different types of gay people.
