Texas "pro life" policies have doubled the maternal mortality rate

Pro-life, unless you're poor and female, then you can just go die.

But guys, they have to give that cell clust - I mean baby - a chance at life.

Wow. People are actually dying because of these shit policies.

It's not really surprising. People, regardless of their motives, have always had a thing for looking at other people and saying, "I don't like this thing you do. It makes your life too easy. So I'm going to stop you from doing the thing that you do, the thing I will never do, so I can feel better about myself. Sure, I'll dress it up in faith or some pseudohumanistic display of altruism in the name of life and liberty, but truthfully, it's because I can't stand seeing someone else getting to live life the way they think they should."

That's really the crux of a lot of social issues; people telling other people, "I don't want you doing this thing. I don't do it, but I don't want you doing it either. Yeah, I know no one is being forced to do it, but its weird and different and when I yell about it, it makes me feel good that other people pay attention to me."

And this sort of god-awfulness is why I loathe republicans. If you vote for this shit then you own it. I can't wait for their party to die. It'll make the world a better place and something sane and rational can take its place.

Strange that the Maternal Mortality rate for the ENTIRE united states has also increased (one of the only countries in the world to have an increase) even tho most of the country does not have the same laws as Texas. Also Texas is ranked 28th or of 50 for maternal mortality rates so since we are looking as Texas and its absurd laws maybe we should look at every other state lower on the list and all those laws ? But I am just a click baiting sensationalist trying to push an agenda so i could be wrong.

    also
    http://www.cdc.gov/reproductivehealt...alth/pmss.html
shows the trend of maternal mortality for the U.S as a whole.
    and
    http://hrc.nwlc.org/status-indicator...ty-rate-100000
    Showing Texas being ranked 28th

None of this means that the maternal mortality rate is absurdly high for a developed country but that the abortion laws in Texas being at fault is kind of a stretch.

The article did not suggest that the reason for the spike had anything to do with abortions.

Your data is out of date. Those are from before the study in question.

And yet the title is still click bait and saying that the policies (which I don't agree with) are the cause is still a stretch.

isn't it logical? they are cutting programs that lowered the mortality rate to the bone seems more like cause and effect.

ITT - bunch of baby killing dicks.

To most of you a baby isn't a baby until it is born. The mental gymnastics it takes for you to wash your conscience clean of approving of killing a baby is astounding. At a certain point it stops being a " zygote" or a "clump of cells". Your definition of "after it is born" is scientifically wrong. There is a reason we as a society don't allow late term abortions( only under certain circumstances).

It's illogical to assume correlation = causation.

Given how bad the GOP gets waxed by the Democrats in regards to the African American and Latino vote they should be happy abortion is legal.
Those two groups of people make up a rather large portion of abortion patients and vote very solidly blue. There could easily be 20 or 25 million more solid blue voters voting this year. The Deep South and Texas would be at least purple if not outright blue right now.

Rudimentary creatures of blood and flesh. You touch my mind, fumbling in ignorance, incapable of understanding.
You exist because we allow it, and you will end because we demand it.

Bla bla bla. Read as: My arbitrary utterly unscientific wholly ignorant, religion based definition of what life is or isn't and what counts as human life and what doesn't, Trumps (pun intended) every other consideration, including that of female bodily autonomy or right to access to healthcare.

It has been proven time and again, ad infinitum that restrictions imposed on birth control, sex ed and abortion leads to increased child mortality rates, unwanted pregnancies, dead mothers and so on. But nooooooooooooo...'cuz Jebus and some other 3500 year old Desert Dwelling Tribal shit.

    Everything's bigger in Texas.

This is less about abortion imo and more about the fact that Texas is overall a conservative state (outside of some urban centers) that tends to view healthcare spending on poor people as socialism.

We live in the wealthiest nation in the world. We can afford quality, universal, low to moderate cost healthcare for every single individual in this country. We can either start viewing health care as a basic human right or we can let people get sick and die due to lack of access to health care.

    Time to wake up.

Poor people have healthcare now. So I'm not sure what the issue is.
