It isn't slow, there is a bit of load time while logging in but that has nothing to do with the app being slow.

Compare the time to log into your WoW character on your computer. The app is still logging into the servers, but there is less to download overall. It takes about 15-20s to log onto the mobile app for me compared to about 30-45s to long into a WoW character.
When you say "slow connecting times", you are pretty vague, so consider it on the scale of logging in directly.

When you take into account what the app is actually doing, I don't think it's too bad. No doubt it can be optimized, and I'm sure they'll work on that, but it's not a bad start at all.

Only when my connection is bad. Downstairs it takes 5-10 seconds to connect, upstairs it takes 30-40 seconds.

It's a bit slow at work but there's no wireless for my phone and my signal is a little sketchy. On my home wireless everything was very quick.

Not really. Even at my workplace where I commonly have 1 bar of signal, I'm still able to use it. Maybe it's just your phone that is slow.
