Would you rather be known as the second Jonas Salk or the second Pablo Escobar?

The scenario is that you're ambitious and you become very successful at what you do. As chance has it two career paths, life choices open up for you.

    1. Jonas Salk invented the vaccine for polio, a horrible disease that paralyzed people for life, sometimes only their legs but some found they couldn't even breath. Salk wouldn't take money for his discovery, he believed the cure belonged to all humanity. I think polio might have been eradicated.

    2. Pablo Escobar, drug lord who ran tons of cocaine out of Columbia to the US. Forbes listed him as the 6th richest man in the world once. He supposed had 400 police in Columbia killed each year, assassinated politicians. He called himself a bandit and Netflix has a current series out about his life called Narcos. I think paramilitary types finally killed Pablo shot him down like a dog.

    Which path do you take?

Help humanity and live your life or die broke and alone? Hard choice to make for sure.

The first path.. But I take the money instead. I'd rather be rich and save lives, than rich and murderous. Kind of an unfair choice. Be a HERO! or be a MASS MURDERER. Make your choice!

Jonas sounds a bit of a nerdy name, whereas Pablo is a much cooler sounding name.

"Hey Pablo. Mojito time!" I could get used to that.

This is such a stupid question and a stupid thread.

Live a normal life and help people or end up broke, running like a rat, and eventually like this.

HEY GUYS WOULD YOU RATHER CONTRACT CANCER AS A CHILD AND DIE, OR LIVE A HAPPY AND HEALTHY LIFE?!!!?!?!?!!

Escobar was hero who fought against American imperialism in South America. He is the biggest hero ever.

I'm one of those weird types who tends to side with the bad guys in films, and I guess a part of me has a begrudging respect for people who stick two fingers up at society and do whatever the fuck they want. Ehh respect is too strong a word, but you know what I mean. I find people like Escobar to be fascinating characters but I don't think I'd want to live their life. I couldn't deal with the paranoia.

Escobar wasn't some rebel sticking it to the man, dude was a terrorist and mass murderer. Let's not glorify him. Interesting guy to be sure but there's no respect to pay to someone like him.

You should try harder to spell things correctly. Anyway Escobar for sure.

I thought Jonas Salk sounded much cooler. Its the sort of name a demonically possessed superhero who has now tamed his inner demon to use for good would have.

"My name is Jonas and I collect pre-1983 Canadian stamps."

That is what people called Jonas are like. Unlike Pablo, I doubt they would even know what a mojito tastes like, they probably drink shandy.

Pablo sounds like the guy you employ to work in your mexican bidet* in Texas.

*An illegal mexican that gently blows mouthful after mouthful of warm clean water upon your dirty nether regions after you used the restroom.

If you look, you can see the straw man walking a red herring up a slippery slope coming to join this conversation.

Yes that's what his background would be like.... until he bought an old stamp album from an obscure collectors shop in which he found some mysterious phrases he foolishly decided to speak. You must know how superhero origin stories work?

You wouldn't have said that to his face. "Senior Escobar" maybe.

Escobar was the biggest philanthropist his people had ever known. It's why it took so long to find and kill him. People in Columbia both loved and hated him.

I would pick Pablo. Fuck helping other people. That shit is way overrated. I'd rather be an outlaw and live life like no one ever has. No rules, only possibilities.

Can't I be both? Find the cure for something and sell it for billions?
Human progress isn't measured by industry. It's measured by the value you place on a life.

    Just, be kind.
