First of all when he grips you , you dont have time to turn , you gotta run straight up without missing a single second but what happens is that sometimes the straight way is behind odyn , you gotta bypass odyn and if you do this you wont make it in time so without a mobile skill its a matter of luck too , body and mind saves you 100%.

...or just hold down your left and right mouse button = no pause and you start running immediately in the direction you're facing.
Speed boosts aren't required to escape it, although they certainly help.

That's okay OP. If you are a Shadow Priest you always have the option to kill him after the encounter is over by activating his special dialogue option. Other than that, just pick body and sould and shield yourself to get out of the AoE in time.

Use your mouse to change direction. If you hold down LMB you can change the view on your screen, holding down RMB lets you change your facing direction in a split second. Learn to use these two methods together along with WASD and you'll never have problems with maneuverability again. NEVER use A or D to change the direction you're facing unless you're holding down RMB.

What spec are you?

Is this Mythic?

As a Holy with Feathers this has never been an issue. However, in melee heavy groups I've found it quite annoying in some Mythic+'s such as Black Rook Hold(?) to be constantly on the move with just Circle of Healing and long CDs as instant cast. I miss ProM being instant.

Dispersion + Rocket Jump has saved my ass so many times in PvP.

Oh, by the way, you can Rocket Jump while in Dispersion.
