Very high temps i7 4790k / Corsair H110i GTX

Hi,

I'm having some pretty bad temperature problems with my CPU and CPU only. I didn't always have these issues, they only recently starting popping up. I figure it was just a combination of having to clean the inside of my case, reapply thermal compound and the hot summer weather. But after having cleaned my computer and the weather now being much cooler the problems persist.

As I said I'm only having these temp problems with my CPU so I'm not sure what I need to put under my specs that are relevant.

Windows 10 Pro
Intel Core i7 4790K @ 4.00GHz
MSI Z97 GAMING 5
Corsair h110i GTX watercooler
Corsair AX760i PSU

I have a Corsair Carbide AIR 540 case with the radiator mounted in the roof with 2 EK-Vardar FF4-140 140mm fans in a pull configuration. I have 3 corsair AF 120 fans in the front of my case as an intake and a AF 140 fan in the back also acting as an intake.

As I mentioned I have dedusted my case, dust filters, fans etc. I have reseated the watercooler pump block. I have reapplied thermal compound several times. I use the thin line method as prescribed by Intel for this CPU. I have even tried switching to a different thermal paste the Arctic MX-4.

I consider my self moderately tech savvy but I am at my wit's end here. Thanks a lot in advance.

Broken (and by broken i mean misbehaving too) pump is a usual thing in those watercoolers, so you probably have that

It doesnt have to make any weird noise for it to malfuction most times.

That would certainly suck. Corsair link says the pump is going. it's set to the max RPM right now.

If you are as tech savvy as you said then its either broken pump or you arent sitting the cooler as tightly.

I doubt you would miss that, therefor, broken pump, especially if i "started randomly"

Yeah, not much else it could be, unless it somehow lost fluid.

I have experienced that with my air cooler. Running 3D Mark 11 would cause the CPU temps to skyrocket to around 90 degrees.

The culprit was that I the air cooler wasn't properly seated and as it turned out, one of the two spring screws somehow wasn't even screwed in thus causing the cooler base to stand a bit askew.

Never used WC though so I guess it could be the pump too as others claim.

If the cooler is not working properly, which it sounds like it is not, delidding will not really help much at all.

50C+ with almost nothing open is way high.

So I threw the stock cooler back on and idle temps are a lot more stable and even lower. Opening up several tabs in Chrome doesn't make the temp spike up to the low 60's anymore. So yeah has to be something with the h110. It's just outside of the factory warranty so I'm gonna have to buy a new cooler. Thanks for all the help everyone.
