[Movie] Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

I never got into the Pirates of Carribean franchise. Is it good? Like really good? Or is it just like, big budget classic predictable cliche movies with a pirate theme?

They're alright. I liked the first 3 quite a bit.

They're nothing SPECTACULAR but it's a good adventure with funny moments. Johnny Depp is great in this role and the antagonists in the first 3 movies are solid.

Orlando Bloom is in the movie - Elizabeth Swan (Kiera Knightly) isn't. The boy in the cell is their son.

Thanks, didn't know that. Wasn't really a big fan of the character Elizabeth Swan anyway.

The first movie was a damn good surprise. And about Depp's performance: Disney executives were confused, asking Depp whether the character was drunk or gay, and Michael Eisner even proclaimed while watching rushes, "He's ruining the film!" Depp answered back, "Look, these are the choices I made. You know my work. So either trust me or give me the boot." His Best Actor nom was well-earned.

As for the following sequels...kinda hit or miss.

Legendary supernatural captains are more memorable than a loyal soldier or a greedy businessman. They're more threatening versions of the protagonist, each with their own personality, and not just commanders of a bland army.

Agree.
If we were to take a harsh perspective look at history no one would see pirates in a romantic manner at all.

I didn't get that. I mean it's the obvious assumption, but then the boy in the cell was called Henry. I thought their son was Will aswell?

Unless a considerable amount of time has passed between movies 3 and 5.

Also more Geoffrey Rush is always a good thing. Guy owns his roles.

Neat PotC movies are usually fun enough, have cool characters, good music and some cool shit to look at. Though none have since matched Dead Man's Chest in terms of overall quality, so here's hoping for another gem like that one.

I think Barbossa is going to die. The series hasn't really had major deaths.

I'm curious as to what they do with Will, he's my favourite character.

The imagery is definitely more impressive than in the fourth one, which only had a fire-spitting ship and the sirens.

I do fear there are going to be too many characters for a stand-alone film, though.

Really? I thought it was pretty fitting. A captain who Sparrow and Barbossa seem to already know returning from the dead, and Will chasing him as it's his duty. No grave will hold him down.

Besides, the previous PotC trailers just had the main theme. All of them. I welcome something different.
