Is there a way to stop the water elemental from using abilities automatically?

I've noticed when you have the water elemental on assist mode, whenever the ability is up it fires the water stream and sometimes the freeze ability without me telling it to. Ideally I'd rather control these things directly to maximize either dps or pvp use, is there a mode other than straight up passive that allows that?

Look on your pet bar. There's a barrier around each spell that looks like it's moving. If it looks like that, then it's on auto cast and the pet will use it as often as possible. Right click the spell so the bar looks normal and that will be turn it off. From then on you'll need to click that icon, or the associated hotkey that you set up, for it to use that spell.
