Questions about ret pally

hi, i just started playing ret, and im quite enjoying it, however i have a few questions that i havent been able to find a concrete answer to, so it would be geat if you guys could help me out.

First is about blessing of might, do i apply it to myself ever? or the highest 3 dps other than me? how exactly does this ability work?

second is how reliant are we on the crusader passive?

third is what is the dps difference between blood elf/tauren as retri? im considering to go tauren.

How's it going! Welcome to the world of Ret! LOL. I'll do my best to answer your questions.
1. BoM. If your solo, hit yourself with all 3 buffs. But in a group or raid, its best to place BoM on the top dps, regardless of role, however if you have an Arms Warrior I would suggest you place it on him because BoM benefits from the Colossus Smash debuff. This buff, although placed on other players, counts as your damage, not theirs. In mythic, it regularly counts for around 10% of my damage.
2. Are you referring to the passive where we get dmg increase a party member dies?
3. Unless your planning on doing top tier, high end Mythic + and Mythic raiding, to the point of being competitive, race has such a minuscule impact that its more about what you prefer and like better.

Just some extra stuff I forgot.
Keep an eye on your stats, you want around 20-22% haste, then focus on Crit=Vers.
Trinkets are a big thing for us. Your goal is to have a powerful "on-use" trinket, and a stat stick. BIS is currently Faulty Countermeasure (on-use) from Vault of Wardens, and Unstable Arcanocrystal (stat stick) from Withered J'im.
Lastly, make sure you line up all of your cd's, meaning use Crusade/On-use trinket/pots/lust at the same time, and try to use your crusade/trinket as much as possible. This is where the bulk of your major dps comes from.

If you mean 'Retribution' (the spell that is) when you mention Crusader -Passive-, it's not something you should really RELY on. But granted it's kinda nice to have during a Bloodlust (but try not to get your buddies killed).

As for Blood Elf or Tauren: It really shouldn't matter too much. You get the stun for Tauren which you can mix with Justicar's Vengeance. And at the same time, Blood Elf gives you Arcane Torrent which grants you 1 Holy Power which can help out during your "Crusade" -talent- during boss fights or things that can't be stunned. 5 holy power: Crusade, TV or DS, then use AT as it has no global cooldown and instantly follow with another TV or DS.

oh thanks for the responses guys! yea i meant the retribution talent. so i dont have to line up dps Cd's for that? and yea i do kinda wanna get into myhtic raiding/high end myhtic + dungeons so i may aswell stay blood elf

I wouldnt try to line that up, too much uncertainty about when you'll receive it. Best bet is to use your cooldown's as much as possible but keep them lined up. It works out well because many on use trinket cooldowns match up with the crusade/AW cooldown. Like it was stated before, make sure you have it for lust, you'll have so much haste you wont be able to smash buttons fast enough.

after having played for a while, i'm having trouble understanding how BoM works in relation to recount/log results. i find this ability to be very vague btw. anyways sometimes my dps shows like 30k higher on recount than on the logs, and also when i check my recount/logs i dont see any dmg done by greater blessing of might by me, yet it does show it on the logs of the guys i buffed. thanks

So GBoM does in fact count as your damage. Some logs/meters don't account for that because they havn't been updated from the old model when it used to count for the buffed individual. However with the changes made in legion, our personal DPS is slightly lowered to account for our increase from our GBoM targets. I use Skada and it counts it as mine, as does warcraftlogs.

ah ok, but i still find it strange how warcraftlogs didnt show any dmg done by gbom, i will test it some more in lfr i guess. what do you use for simming? just simulationcraft or askmrrobot?

Either work well, Simcraft is a bit more accurate. However I tend to use AMR a bit more because of its ease of use, and we have a guild sub sooo...

just did lfr to test this, it simply doesn't count it, i have most certainly buffed 3 guys that also did dmg, u can also see the dmg done by those guys in the logs. could u maybe check this lfr log to see whats wrong? cant post links so i will pm you if you dont mind, thanks

What logs are you using? Cause Warcraft logs definitely shows BoM. I log for my guild every raid and its definitely there. Are you using world of logs? They may not show up, I haven't checked though. https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports...-done&source=8

hmm, very weird then. Advanced combat logging would be the only thing I could possibly think of.

EDIT: https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports...s=-2&source=13 Seems odd that the only BoM for the entirety of these logs, was only on himself. My only other guess was....did he simply forget to buff....

He's not in the raid bosses. There are a lot of encounters but we're mainly looking at the raid bosses. You can't deny that it's buggy though. I actually didn't see many fights where he was prot, he was ret most of the time.

@Kivross - if you know something about the AMR simulator that isn't accurate, let me know so I can look into it. Right now there are no outstanding bugs - so if you know of one, hit me up (Thanks!!! <3)

A couple of really handy features for the AMR simulator that make it really dependable:

We build real boss scripts - Ursoc is the first, Mythic + is coming out this weekend I think, and from there we'll fill in the other bosses. So it is easy to verify our simulator by comparing it to logs (which I spend a lot of time doing). For Ursoc scripts, it's spot on. So the other reason that is important, is it then becomes a very useful tool to figure out how to improve. You can compare a log directly to a sim of Ursoc and see if you should change spell rotations, use a different talent, etc.

It turns out its just me lacking knowledge about logging. i turned on advanced logging and now it does record it, and i will just use skada as recount doesnt show gbom dmg. thanks for the help guys!
