    losing streaks...what's your worst?

    Hey all,

I recently started playing hearthstone again (and ranked to boot) and I'm currently riding a pretty crazy losing streak. Yes I'm sure I suck, but I made it up to rank 13 4/4 and since then I've literally lost every single match and I'm now barely clinging to rank 17. The best deck I have with what I can craft and work with is either a dragon priest or aggro shaman. I played dragon priest through ALL of my wins and I was winning 3 or 4 games out of every 5 I played so I think I understand enough what I'm supposed to do with this deck, which is all the more confusing as to why I simply cannot seem to buy a win right now.

Anyhow, by my math, I've lost 17 matches in a row and within the last few I've started playing my shaman deck but still can't stop riding this wave...

    ...how about you?

It might be one of those day, everything is against you. You are better of taking a break and try again the next day with a fresh mind.

I usually stop if I am on a losing streak, take a break then come back later or the day after. It's usually around 5-7 loss.

I think I once lost like 18 in a row or something crazy. To be honest though after like 7 or 8 I was on tilt and just played really bad and started doing stupid stuff just to knock out daily quests.

If I lose three or four in a row, I just call it quits for a while and come back later

I once had a 12 lose streak, tbh i didnt think i tilted or played that bad, people just countered me constantly, even with a deck i was very familiar with.

First and only time I hit rank 5 I got to rank 5 with 3 stars then lost every single game until I was back at rank 8, that was a very bad losing streak.

Why in the hell would you keep playing ranked? You deserved to drop that far for being silly enough to even go from 5-6 without stopping.

Losing a few games in a row does in no way mean your losing streak will continue, that's gambler's fallacy.

And? It's called being intelligent. You should know when you're far enough ahead to see that if you even fall behind a little bit, it's better to take what you have left without risking more.

    It's also not rocket science.

Seeing as you're an intelligent person what's the difference between playing on now or waiting until tomorrow when the chance of you winning the next game is exactly the same. Hint: There is none.

Yes, because we'll just assume the reason you lose is because "oh shit happens". Not your playing poorly, or running into a buzzsaw of the same meta deck, or any other number of factors that can change drastically simply by logging off and waiting until later. No, all that stuff is 100% guaranteed to occur no matter when you play.

Your chances to lose when you're not playing, genius, are 0%. So if you've come into bad luck, probabilities are not in your favor anymore. Have you ever been to a casino? Dear God, man, they'd LOVE you! "Oh, I started off hot, but now I'm cooling off...hmmm...I know, I'll just keep throwing money out and it's bound to get better because just taking my winnings and calling it a day doesn't change anything!".

Hearthstone is just a two player slot machine. If you wanna keep pulling the lever and watching yourself go bust, be my guest. You deserve what the end result is.

The thing aboout probabilities though is that you aren't garunteed to start losing out once you've reached a favorable payout threshold. Take a deck with a fairly good win ratio of 65%, if you have played enough games in a couple of hours to exceed the expected win rate of the deck (say you've won an average of 75% of the games during that play period) you aren't going to necesarrily start losing games right away to even out your performance and kick you back down to your own intended 65% win rate. Sure when you do start losing some games it could suggest you are evening out again & will be taken down quite a bit, just you could just as easily lose, say four games in a row simply to have 5, 6, or 7 wins follow the losing streak all before you ever get benched by the big losing streak that sticks you at 65% for good that month.

In other words, probability follows no definite rules that state that when you 'hit it big' once that you then must start losing at a specific amount, or that if you have a bad losing streak once that you are not garunteed to get a second wind to balance out your first losing streak. If your first losing streak doesn't affect your mental performance then it can still pay off to ride it out until you had an odd win streak. Afterall, if your deck is solid and has a win rate well above 50% for the current meta decks then the odds of running until small win streaks are better than running into big losing streaks.

Comparing playing Hearthstone to playing in a casino? Casinos are known to give bad odds now and in the future forever, this has nothing to do with Hearthstone. In Hearthstone there's no way to tell whether your bad streak will continue.

One month I had a bad run around rank 12 to 14 going for the final push then all of a sudden I went all the way to rank 5 in the same session, yeah I should've taken a break... not.
