Hey.
If i were to pick up this game for the first time, which hero would you all recommend?

LiLi is a great starting support. She's easy to play with auto-target spells and quick to learn. Mastering her positional playstyle will teach you where to stand in a fight.
Raynor is a good choice for Asn with his automatic heal that will save your life more than it doesnt.
Maradin is a pretty reliable Warrior. Great Escape tool and a passive heal out of combat.
There really isn't a Specialist that is a straightforward example, because they're all played so differently, but Hammer is probably the easiest to start.

Here are a few other suggestions as well.
Specialist: Xul
Support: Malfurion
Warrior: ETC (Muradin is the easiet, but ETC is relatively simple too)
Assassin: Jaina or Thrall (melee or range so take your pick)

I would say raynor is by far the easiest hero to play, the main thing you have to worry about with him is target priority, and not using his q to help enemies escape... For a tank, I would say Muradin is your best choice there, straight-forward survivability with out of combat regen and a good escape. Supports and specialists is where the game gets a bit trickier in my opinion as different choices tend to be better/easier depending on the scenario or your own personal strengths.
Tank: Muradin and Anuburak
Assassin: Raynor and Valla
Healer: Li Li and Uther
The difficultly of specialists vary: Abathur was very easy for me when I took him up, mainly because most of your responsibility as a teamplayer is shifted to other players; it's up to THEM to be smart and get close enough to foes to make use of your abilities. It's up to THEM to know when to run and make use of your shield/speed boost. Meanwhile, parking yourself in a bush right next to a lane to soak exp and passively push lanes, monitoring the flow of battle and any nearby enemy heroes on the minimap, whilst laying down mines every now and then, is pretty simple. On the other hand, you have Sylvanas, who plays pretty much like an assassin but with abilities tuned for pushing lanes, and is easy-peezy.
Raynor is a great dps for beginners. Valla too if you want a bit more mobility, damage but be a bit more squishy as well.
Lili is hands down the Sona of HotS. Roll face on keyboard and you should still support adequately.
Zagara is also pretty strong for little work, but her skill floor is not quite as low as the others. You need the right build and a bit of brain for her ulti. Her ulti is easy to miss and can do more harm than good sometimes. Also a lot of new players might be tempted to stand there and channel Qs or even build for Q, which would not be complementary for a beginner.
Warrior:Muradin
Ranged Assassin:Valla or Raynor
Melee Assassin:Thrall
Support:LiLi
Specialist:Zagara
Ever since the rework, I would have to say that Valla is NOT a good starter assassin anymore. Raynor is.
Assassin(Ranged) - Raynor.
Assassin(Melee) - Thrall
Warrior(Control) - ETC (Muradin is not easy, given by his high popularity and low win rate at lower ranks)
Warrior(Bruiser) - Artanis (Simplest of the bruisers given that he just needs to get on and stick to a target.)
Healer - LiLi (Except W, all other abilities are auto-aimed)
There is no "easy" Specialist, given that all Specialists have a unique, and different playstyle compared to each other. Each one has something the others don't worry bout.
Valla isn't hard. Maybe not as easy as she was, but still is not hard. I choose her is because she had mobility, Raynor doesn't. Muradin is less punishing than ETC. More survivability. You get hurt? Just don't take damage and heal up a bit and jump back in.
I am obviously not recommendeding a melee on purpose, it is much easier to make mistakes as them. Artanis is a horrible choice, you really have no mobility, once you get in a fight it is so hard to get out of it. And even W Li Li is easy, only real hard thing to pull off is Water Dragon.
I disagree, many specialist are easier than others. Xul, Syl and Zag are easy, Azmo differs on build, Medivh, Aba and TLV are very hard. Zag is a pretty straight forward hero in teamfights, and is easily useful. You never think "Wow I wish we had more damage" when having Zagara. The most difficult thing is her trait( which cost no mana now) and using her ult.
