    Monitor Internet Usage

Anyone have any recommendations for a program (free preferred) that I could use to monitor network traffic on a local machine over a period of time (say a month). Doesn't need to be detailed but something with an overall usage (including split into up/down) and maybe the top say 5-10 applications that used the network? It's difficult to google search as I get spammed by a million paid ads for horrid programs and was hoping for something someone had actually used and could recommend, Thanks.

Lifehacker has a article that I believe would be relevant. I think step 4 would be a good start.

No directly plugged into Modem, I can check later (not home currently) if it has that functionality but I don't believe it does.

    I am using NetLimiter
    Great software but isn't free

I think the software monitors for free. Manage dl/ul speed is not free
    I'll check at home

NetLimiter looks good, especially the limiting applications bit, I was hoping to use a feature such as this to make sure only certain things accessed the internet at any one time while in slow connections.
