    I tried to warn you...

You can't kill a thought. The more you crack down on "wrong think" the more it spreads and grows. As germans suffer more and more from immigrants they will start to look to the past with fondness drawing strength from the imagine of what they once were.

You want to stop it? I honestly don't think it can be stopped "current year" is comming to a close and with it the far right is taking power from the far left.

You are about to see a whole new brand of crazy soon and it is gonna be fun.

And the re-emergence in social media, literature and political protests of words that were weaponized by the Nazis...
Perhaps that is why they lost.

We were bombing the fuck out of them and, instead of using anti-aircraft batteries, they were shouting "Englische Schweinhund!" really angrily at the RAF.

It is troubling indeed, but we can't just put a gag on free speech and pat ourselves on the shoulder for a job well done.
There's a fine line to be walked here. The real question is whether or not these words are being used for expressing racism and hate speech, or if they're just being rediscovered by people who like using uncommon or archaic words.

I'm saying this because while I hate the AfD and am a liberal centrist, I must admit to having used the word for "subhuman" in a humorous context when speaking to friends or family about a third party that has invoked my displeasure somehow. This is not out of a sense of superiority and has nothing to do with ethnicity or culture, but it's such an amazingly bombastic sounding insult in German. Nobody has ever thought me a Nazi for using it in that way.

Thing is, Germans like to make up new, concise words for complex things. And there's a whole dictionary worth of terminology coined in Nazi Germany that is unfortunately very applicable to the refugee situation from the perspective of racists and xenophobes. To explain this to non-German speakers, the word "Überfremdung" roughly translates to "Over-strangening" or "Over-foreignization" and is actually a perfect fit if you want to say "the displacement of our established moral values and traditions by foreign elements of society." Only it was the Nazis who came up with it.

I don't think an authoritarian approach is going to do much good here though. Banning words is not going to make the sentiment disappear. And I like my Nazis where I can see them, so I know what they're doing. All we can do at this point is help the refugees integrate as best we can and and wait for the dissenters to run out of steam.

This sounded a little wrong when I read it on reddit, "racist" is the wrong word I think.

Rent-a-Jew project hopes to ward off anti-Semitism in Germany

But I guess the idea is a Jew comes to your house, you have dinner and talk. That sounds fun.

My first thought was, rent him and get him to do my taxes.

Don´t worry, we don´t start crying when someone uses mean words against us.

Well, it seems, we are living in the "post-fact" era now. So screw facts. Feelings are more important. Don't come to me with logic or facts. The feelings are reality too!! (Funny how the right brings those arguments, but mock people for feeling insulted).

"Umvolkung" is not used by anyone but right wing / AFD in germany.

    So is "völkisch".

Its words from the third reich. Most of my fellow germans wont like to use words from that time.

Actually, right wing populists arent able to get a considerable amount of voters in germany. 15% was their maximum for the whole country. Currently going down.

Fortunately, thanks to our past, we havent forgotten what right wing politics may lead to.

I don't understand how left politicians can be so tone deaf. How do they not understand that making comments when something happens with an immigrant or an Islamist as "isolated incidents" or whatever rationale they make to explain it away (disregarding whether they are correct or not since the point is to not alienate people from voting for you) only alienates the right even more and pushes neutral people to that side. It honestly looks like they are out of touch or trying to troll.. It comes off like they are defending it and I can understand why some people would feel like the establishment really has a grand scheme against it's people

Can you really blame people for being pissed off that they are being asked to change their culture without argument and are berated if they try to ask the Immigrants to try and adapt to some of the Countries Culture.

That's all this bullshit is anymore.

  14. #34
You aren't bending over backwards for immigrants! What are you? Some sort of racist! How dare you don't surrender your whole culture and way of doing things just because some immigrants showed up!

Listen, no one is falling for that rhetoric anymore. Get a new line already.......

I can understand that terms like KZ should not be used for anything because of the bad things attached to that term and the fact that the word isnt needed at all but "Überfremdung" is a term that still can get used to describe getting swarmed by too many foreigners.

I'm sure Hitler said "Guten Morgen" sometimes in his life.. better ban that offensive speech.

Extremism only grows because of the fertile soil left behind by politicians in the last decades.

I've seen a lot of finger pointing the last months in news and media, but no politician ever seems to really understand the root of the problems.

As a german, I've got to say "Umvolkung" is actually a good way to describe what's happening in the last 2 years.

It's funny that the term was actually used to describe it the other way around btw. The Germans were supposed to be "introduced" in other ethnic groups that were deemed "worthy" to assimilate them and turn them into "Germans".

What Germany has been doing for a long time now, is introducing other ethnic groups to our society to change "us".
So... in a way, they don't want someone to say that word because someone could start thinking that they are doing Nazi-stuff... or some bullshit like that(?).

Germany is currently being ruled by a grand coalition of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), the Chrstian Social Union (CSU) and the Socialdemocrat Party of Germany (SPD).

The CDU is a conservative social market party. The CSU is a bavarian even more conversative party. The social democracts are a traditional old social democracy party sourced in germany from the early 20th century, and one of those parties that fought national socialism. Willy Brandt was one of their leaders, a freedom fighter against the nazi regime. Both, the CDU and CSU are anti-nazi since their creation short after the 2nd world war.

Head of the CDU currently is Angela Merkel, a christian religious woman from the former GDR. Her values are not lead by left ideas but by christianism. She infact is far from left and the biggest supporter of the established economy in germany.

Only for right wing people. No, there was nothing like a "Umvolkung". Germans still live where germans lived before.

What has that to do with the word "Umvolkung". The word describes a change inside an ethnic group (to turn it a different ethnic group over a longer period), not a change in which country they live in... or whatever you think it does.

You'd be quite wrong to think that this hasn't happened in the last 40 years or so.
