But that wasn't your initial assertion which is that "Communism works because China works", but as you yourself have established China isn't Communism, ergo they can't be used an example of Communism working.

If I had to choose a system for myself along the gradient of capitalism to communism, I would choose primarily communism with capitalism components. I am generally more about the collectivism than the individualism. Stronger together than apart. I feel the USA is primarily capitalism with communism components. Not a good fit for me.
    So move to China?

Not really. We have real world examples that mixed economies work. Pure capitalist societies tend to get very violent and very unequal.

Hong Kong per capita GDP $42,295
    China per capita GDP $8,141

Clearly Hong Kong needs to tighten controls on their free market and embrace communist ideology.

Yes, because I compare myself to poor folk in Ethiopia every day of my life. It is not like vast swaths of commercials and advertisements are everywhere in American society constantly reminding you what you don't have compared to other wealthier Americans.

Do you think this is unique to American society?

Then please by all means, go forth. Be with your own people. Don't let the man and the bonds of capitalism hold you back.....

As far as I am aware there has been no true communist countries...ever. Only in name, they are some oddball mashup of some form of dictatorship and socialism.

And they're right. They don't work. Communism exists only exists because capitalism allows it. While on the other hand capitalism does work. Has been for hundreds of years.

This really depends on your definition of "works." Purely capitalistic societies, which there haven't been many of, tend to breed violence and severe inequality just as much as Communistic ones do. Mixed economies work.

And, just to be clear, that "mix" is capitalism plus socialism.

"Socialism" includes horrible stuff like "co-operatives" and "credit unions" and "union-owned factories". Heinous, I know.

Just like North Korea is not a good example of communism.

I'd love to hear what you think a good example of Communism is.

Excluding China, because it isn't a communist country.

Except China is doing it 70% socialist/30% capitalist. That is kinda the point of the whole thread.
