    Arena title issues

Anyone else finding the arena cutoffs particularly high for season 1?

People are saying its a bug, some are saying its due to low participation...

Apparently arenamate and other title cutoff tracking sites got things a bit wrong, which I'm not sure how thats possible.

myself I was high 1700's and got challenger

There is no publicly available method to count horde/alliance players separately from the base of 1000 rating up to the top 5000. In previous seasons knowing the lowest rank was all you needed. So this season it all came down to how good a site could estimate the distribution of the factions plus the effect of DQs, last day transfers/factions changes would have on each cutoff.

Also, participation was indeed very low. It barely passed the numbers of wod s2, a time in which the game had lost 50% of the subscriber base.

some1 posted a SS of a gm saying there was a bug, guess we just have to wait for an official blue post saying what happened.

I believe the cutoffs are correct. The estimates from 3rd party sites is 150k Arena players total. However this season the awards are calculated per faction. So you have to split the ~150k into horde and alliance amounts and the cutoffs are based on those amounts. Due to the nature of balance and the short season it could be that third party sites a bit off calculating the estimated total number of people above 1k rating to participate in the arena cutoffs.

You end up with approximately 50k each faction for cutoffs. Your rating is based on playing against a pool of 150k players but the cutoffs are based on a pool of 50k eligible players. Which then seem to make the title cutoffs kinda make sense.

Blizzard just fucked up, as per usual. In the past you needed 50 wins to get rewards, but only 1000+ rating to be included in the ladder. This time you also needed 50 wins to be in the ladder, probably because they fucked up and made the faction-change rule apply to everyone.
Well, there *might* be some kind of a change with Legion s1, but we are only talking about that because the numbers look abysmally small *even* after you factor in the known terrible performance of Legion PVP compared to WoD. It might also be that there is no change, that it's just the numbers that are, indeed, smaller than even those in projections (projections are imperfect). Let's wait for a blue (the blues already said that they will only look into this after holidays).

They're so embarrassed by the participation numbers that they have to claim it's yet another "bug". Everything is a "bug" now in WoW. Convenient because there's a lot that can cover and still seem like a legit "mistake". The tiny numbers will tell the world how bad WoW has become and they have to think of a way to soften that blow.

That's what you get when you're so greedy you stink and then shoot yourself in the foot.

They're just waiting for Ion or whoever their top bullshitter-in-chief is to get back from Xmas to OK whatever PR spin they're going to put on it.
