VALLETTA, Malta – Two hijackers diverted a Libyan commercial plane to Malta on Friday and threatened to blow it up with hand grenades, Maltese authorities and state media said.

The Malta airport authority said all emergency teams had been dispatched to the site of what it called an "unlawful interference" on the airport tarmac. The plane's engines were still running Friday long after the aircraft landed at 11:32 a.m.

State television TVM said the two hijackers on board had hand grenades and had threatened to explode them.

All flights into the Mediterranean island airport have been diverted.

I would use Breitbart but they haven't updated the story so i went with fox instead. Anyways what you think about it?

Well, I hope the negotiator knows how to convey the bad news of Gadafi's death.

But on second look, the simple truth as it was a domestic libyan flight is we already left the western "care" zone (europe, north america, australia, parts of asia), pass right through the "might care" zone (south america, some parts of africa, other parts of asia) and land directly in the "don't care" zone (rest of the world). So I don't expect a libyan Facebook filter to come up soon.

Just wondering, in the 70s and 80s when planes were kidnapped intermediate landings to refuel were quite common.
Do you think authorities after 9/11 would allow the plane to lift off again? Or would they risk the lives of the passengers and never let it off the ground again?

I really cannot imagine they would allow that anymore.
