    WoW Laptop.

    Hey all,

This is probably a somewhat recurring question, but I am looking for a laptop that can comfortably play WoW and has good performance in raids.

Reason I want one is because I travel a lot for work and spend many nights being bored in hotel rooms. It helps me to stick to a raiding schedule for my guild as well.
Other functionality isn't crucial, I have my company laptop for anything related to work. At home I game on my desktop and would never consider using the laptop.

Battery performance is trivial since I'll always be either docked in or plugged in when using it. I'll mostly be on WiFi while gaming, so not sure how important this is to pick a good laptop, but I do want all standard connectivities (ethernet, HDMI, USB 3.0).
I also like the vibrancy of IPS panels, so I'm mostly looking towards those, but it's not a requirement.

Budget is not defined and not a problem, but I'd like to keep it as cheap as possible for my needs.

I had 2 different ones on my mind (it's a Dutch/Belgian webshop that I order on, but I assume you'll get the right info from this site):
    1. https://www.laptopshop.be/product/74...be-azerty.html
    2. https://www.laptopshop.be/product/74...be-azerty.html

The second one is a bit on the expensive side, but has a strong GPU and plenty of RAM that I shouldn't need to worry for a long time.

What are your thoughts and alternatives/advice? Thank you!

Has a GTX 1050 which should still be ok for wow and is slightly cheaper, the ones you chose should both be sufficient

Thanks for your reply. https://www.laptopshop.be/product/75...ro-azerty.html looks good as well and the performance difference between a 1050Ti and 1060 isn't massive (especially not for my gaming goals on the road). Saves me a bit of money to spend on a decent backpack.

I'm not really sure how important the difference between 15 &17 inch screens are. I guess I'd best have a look at my local laptop dealer. If 15 is still comfortable for WoW I can shave off another €200 for a https://www.laptopshop.be/product/75...rd-azerty.html

I am happy you are choosing the ASUS ROG They are super durable (I dropped mine on a tile floor, not to mention dropped several times on carpet) and in the 6 years I have owned mine nothing ever went out on it like for example all 3 dells/alienwares I have owned have died in the first year.

The only downside is that they are bulky, but thats about it

Noticed that in a few reviews as well and it worries me slightly since i'll be taking it with me on flights a lot, but I'll handle it

https://www.laptopshop.be/product/74...specifications looks like my choice so far. Great design.

I wouldnt worry about it to much, just make sure you have a case that fits it well.. and just as a heads up the case (atleast when i bought mine) was expensive .. roughly 100 dollars in american money.

I'm looking at 17 inch Samsonite backpacks, they don't go much cheaper than that and have the best build quality I can think of, like the http://www.samsonite.be/nl/cityscape...3&cgid=SAMS005.

Or this one on the site I'll order the laptop from, as long as it fits and is at least a bit sturdy. https://www.laptopshop.be/product/68...zak-zwart.html

Not going to go with a shoulder bag since I already have one from work. Carrying 2 makes me look like a tool.

LOL yeah we dont want you to look like a tool, Both backpacks look good though I would go for the leather Samsonite one. Samsonite is definitely high quality! Good Luck

TY for the recommendation, it's been a long time since I've been computer shopping...right now I'm considering this guy because I want to go thin and light as possible (it won't let me post links):
    ASUS ROG STRIX GL502VS-DB71 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 6700HQ (2.60 GHz) 16 GB Memory 1 TB HDD 256 GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 8 GB GDDR5 15.6" FHD 1920 x 1080 Windows 10 Home 64-Bit
but there are so many options it's really difficult to decide and parse all the data =/

Most gaming laptops are not thin or light, Asus ROG's are very bulky. The thin ones (I find) are more expensive as well. MSI and Razer make thin gaming laptops.

Yeah I'd expect to pay more for thinness and lightness, one of the reasons I was looking at the one I listed is because it was listed in the specs around 5 pounds while the others were closer to 8...

Do you have any experience with the MSI or Razer ones from a ruggedness/quality perspective?

I have a slightly older MSI one but one of the heavier ones, built sturdy enough IMO, depends on the model you buy.

Personally, I dont have experience with either. I know people who have had MSI and had nothing but good things to say about them.
I have also heard that Razers are meh.

Have you heard anything about 4k UHD? I'm currently looking at the MSI GS73VR Stealth Pro-062

It has an option for 4k but it's vague about whether or not you can actually watch 4k movies on it...Specifically people are asking in the question section but no one has answered.

Are there any gotchas that you know about? Do you think it's worth it?

I was doing some reading on it and it seems like the 4k model has a better build (im talking about actual build, apparently the normal one has some edges you can cut yourself on lol)

I can't really say if movies will be in 4k, im not really all familiar with it but if its anything like 480p/720p/1080p it would probably upscale the movie. I do know WoW on a 4k monitor looks amazing though.

Going over the specs of the laptop you listed though, it looks pretty amazing just make sure you have proper airflow so you dont overheat it. (i.e no glass tables)

That's really interesting, I've not heard that, what about glass creates poor airflow?

The glass holds heat like crazy, thats why you would want proper airlflow.

Funny that you bumped, because I'm buying this weekend and have looked at 17 inch (the ones suggested here) vs 15 inch. 17 is not portable enough for me, after trying in-store, so I've decided on either:

    MSI GT62VR 6RE
    https://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...82E16834154290
    https://www.laptopshop.be/product/74...ro-azerty.html

    or

    ASUS GL502VS
    https://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...82E16834234297
    https://www.laptopshop.be/product/74...be-azerty.html

There's a €150 difference in favor of the ASUS one where I will buy them, however the MSI got dropped to €1920 which is a temporary €200 discount. The ASUS also doesn't have a regular HDD, only a 512gb SSD.
Reading up on it a bit, the MSI gets more votes in terms of build quality and runs a bit cooler it seems. The Steelseries keyboard on the MSI is pretty good compared to the ASUS one, imo.
