Medieval 1 Total War, Command and Conquer and Age of Empires for Strategy
Resident Evil 1 for Horror.
MMO - Runescape
Action RPG (More specifically Soulslike) - Dark Souls
3D Platformers - Either Jak and Daxter or Ratchet and Clank. Can't remember which I played first.
Turn Based RPG - Pokemon Blue
Open World RPG - Oblivion
3D platforming was Super Mario 64.
Mythical/Fantasy-Action-Adventure-3rd person would probably be Mystical Ninja or Ocarina of Time.
RTS both WC3 and Broodwar.
MMORPG. Indirectly it would've been Warcraft 3 because I wouldn't have played WoW if I didn't like Warcraft 3 so much.
Karting would be Mario Kart 64.
FPS I started with either Goldeneye or World is Not Enough but didn't really get into FPS until I started on PC which was either with Wolfenstein ET or Halo:CE.
3rd person shooter was probably Army Men Sarge's Heroes.
RPG: Quest for Glory and SSI Gold box D&D games
MMO: Ultima Online and EQ
FPS: Doom / Pathways into Darkness / Marathon
RTS: Warcraft Orcs v Humans
RPG: FF7
I still remember the first time i saw someone playing FF7 in a Game Store. I was still a owner of a snes back there and when i saw the game my jaw just dropped. I bought a PSX months later and the first game i got was FF7. After that i spent most of the PSX, PS2 and PS3 era playing rpgs.
For MMORPGs: Ragnarok Online
Mount and Blade introduced me to the Mount and Blade genre.
Final Fantasy IV was my first for RPGs, though Chrono Trigger was really what made them amazing to me.
Zelda 1 for Action RPGs
Splinter Cell for stealth based games
Everquest for MMORPGs
DOOM the original for first person shooters
Warcraft II for RTS
Pokemon Red is the first video game I have owned. I'd say it started my love for several genres, got me to enjoy prpgressing something through playing the game. I never knew the concept of xp until that game.
The wise wolf who's pride is her wisdom isn't so sharp as drunk.
RPG: Super Mario RPG. Never played an RPG before that, but I borrowed it from a friend when I was in elementary school and loved it. I was AWFUL at first though, had no idea what to do having only played platformers and the likes up to that point.
FPS: Perfect Dark
MMORPG: Star Wars Galaxies
Racing: Diddy Kong Racing
well I suppose if I have to settle on one genre I'd say Tiberium sun which introduced me to RTS's
Since you said favorite, I'll go with RPGs, and Golden Sun would be the game.

Hmm well let's see :
RPG - Diablo 2 ( though technically more of a hack and slash it was the most complex game i'd have played up until then. It opened my eyes to games like baldur's gate and morrowind and then i got hooked).
FPS - Quake 2 ( I did play wolfenstein before but tbh i was not much of a fan).
TBS - Heroes of might and magic 3.
Secret of Mana introduced me to RPGs, which has stayed my favorite genre ever since.
Some would argue LoZ on NES did it but I don't consider Zelda an RPG
FPS
- Introduction: Wolfenstein 3D
- Childhood defining game: Starsiege Tribes
MMO
- Introduction: Everquest
- Childhood defining game: Dark Age of Camelot
World of Warcraft - MMORPG
Diablo 2 - ARPG
KOTOR 2 - RPG
All of these three are my favourite genres.
