    Computer for WoW

    Hello all,

I've decided I want to start playing wow again after years of hanging up the gloves, I've found a pc which is affordable for me (£89.99) and I just want your guys advise as to whether this will run wow smoothly on a moderately good graphic setting, I don't want it to be brilliant but not poor. The reason I need advise is because I'm not very technical with matching up computer specs, and I don't want to buy a computer which is going to be useless for the purpose I'm buying it for.. the link to the computer is below. Also if anyone has some suggestions of a computer tower similar to that price please also say Thanks appreciate the help:

    Brand: Dell
    Operating System: Windows 7
    Product Line:
    Precision Optical Drive:: DVD-/+RW
    Model: 390
    Power Lead:: FREE
    Hard Drive Capacity: 250GB
    Keyboard & Mouse: FREE
    Processor Type: C2D
Graphic Card: 512MB (says NVidia on link)
    Memory: 4GB

    Thanks again

    Stay away.
    Thanks for reply,

Okay I will stay clear. What kind of pricemark will I be looking at 2nd hand and what computers would you recommend going for? I do appreciate the replies

I recommend to try and buy induvidual parts and build it yourself. If that does not work, well look at blizzards website, they got recommended PC specs there for wow and then try to follow those lines.

Based on their product sheet, the best the video card is, NVIDIA Quadro® FX 4500; which only supports up to DX 9.0c. CPU and memory are bare minimum.

Personally, I say you need to save up and buy double this system. It will "run" wow. But it I seriously doubt it would be very enjoyable.

You'll be happier in the long run AND have a system that can do what you want(and then some).

If your budget is what you say it is you won't get a system that'll do what you want unless you find someone running a charity.
Thanks for the reply, yeah my point is I'm not fussed completely about graphics, as long as theyre playabale without crsppy lag ill be fine. I could probably stretch to 150-180.. any suggestions??????????????????????????

Thanks for reply, I did try but I'm honestly useless and I wouldn't even know where to start with building one I could stretch to 150-180

The limit for a new computer is probably around $500. Something like this would run WoW great.

    https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-E.../dp/B01DT4A2R4

If you buy that, the key is that graphics card won't be optimized to run WoW at its best. To do that, you need to open up the NVIDIA control panel and go to the page where it specifies WoW settings, and set it for maximum performance.

$180? You CAN get something for that price, but you will need to hit craigslist and buy a used computer. You are rolling the dice there that it will even work.

You can also hit local pawn shops. Sometimes people in desperate need to cash will sell a nice gaming laptop to a pawn broker. If the pawn broker isn't computer saavy, you could get one for $180. You'd have to know what you are looking for however. You need to know what a graphics card is, if the laptop has such a card, and if it is good enough to run wow well.

Lastly, if you have good credit and an income stream, you could get a computer on a payment plan. You could also apply for a credit card and get a line of credit, buy the acer aspire laptop with the card, use the $180 to make minimum payments on the card until you get more money. They will take $15 per month payments. You could stretch that out to a year.

TO FIX WOW:1. smaller server sizes & server-only LFG awarding satchels, so elite players help others. 2. "helper builds" with loom powers - talent trees so elite players cast buffs on low level players XP gain, HP/mana, regen, damage, etc. 3. "helper ilvl" scoring how much you help others. 4. observer games like in SC to watch/chat (like twitch but with MORE DETAILS & inside the wow UI) 5. guild leagues to compete with rival guilds for progression (with observer mode).6. jackpot world mobs.

OP if you are after 2nd hand and doing stuff on the ultra cheap

    Then
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dell-Preci...YAAOSwA3dYfffq

would be up your alley, the CPU is actually a beast, though it lacks a proper GPU, the advantage of this system is, it comes with the OS, it does use a proprietary motherboard but the PSU connections and mounting won't be.

But this system really needs a GPU to run, I don't think Xeons have an Igpu to get started.

That computer might run WoW, but it is made up of parts from ~2008. You will be looking at low graphic settings and probably 30-40 fps at best (dipping to ~15 or less in raids). I mean, it sort of will work but your gaming experience won't be great.

    Hello thanks for reply,

ive done some final digging and also found another affordable build around £200, will this do a good job?

Asus A68HM-K Micro ATX FM2+ Motherboard
    AMD A6-7400K 3.5GHz Dual-Core Processor
    Kingston Savage 4GB (1 x 4GB) DDR3-2133 Memory
Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
EVGA 430W 80+ Certified ATX Power Supply
Xigmatek Recon ATX Mid Tower Case

what does everyone think as I'm ready to make my order as stated earlier as well I'm not looking for high end graphics something around 40/50fps

Ahh, I'm not too knowledgable about AMD stuff, so can't help much here. I'm not seeing a video card listed in this build, though. A video card is very important for gaming. I would try for something like a Nvidia 660 at minimum to play WoW. The 660 cards came out in 2012 and are still perfectly functional for playing WoW on lower settings.

Honestly if you can't afford a build with at least a 660 or 660ti video card right now, I would recommend waiting and trying to save some money up until you can. A quick pop onto ebay shows used ones selling for ~$50-60. Used computer components like that might be a bit of a risk, but it is a way to cut cost.

AMD integrated graphics will run Legion around setting 4 at 30-40fps. With significant dips below that anytime a lot is going on. A 4GB machine today probably won't be running WOW though, at least not playably (constant disk swapping). I mean for the price of the AMD you're getting fairly good performance/$ but it won't run well.

If you swap out the motherboard/CPU and get a Pentium G4620 and a 1050 it should run WOW pretty well. I would not get a 750/750ti or 950 unless you find one second hand exceptionally cheap, because they aren't really any cheaper than the 1050 and the 1050 is a lot better. 4GB is also not enough for a gaming computer anymore, 8GB is the absolute bare minimum.

Don't forget he is going to need an OS and peripherals i.e. monitor, keyboard and mouse.

That's probably even worse than the E8400 system.

You may go for a used (second hand) computer rather...
