You're a few months late.
You're a few months late.
How about diminishing returns on AP, so that the more you farm in a week, the less you get, but you would still get something. Real life is full of this kind of "caps" too, like you can't go and pick mushrooms 24/7 and expect to get the same return continuously. It's just unnatural (and boring) that you can kill the same bosses 100 times and they always drop same amount of loot.
I'd like a total cap that increases each week, like conquest from WoD, plus AK made into a global multiplier that increases at the same time as the cap. That way there's no push to immediately rush to the trait cap to maximize your character's power, and new players/alts joining 10 weeks in might only have to do 4 or so weeks' worth of actual grinding to catch up thanks to AK.
Just like they feel hitting max traits is mandatory (btw, that is also a cap). The difference is you do not alienate your playerbase by having a weekly cap (w/ roll overs in case you miss some days in a week) VS a soft cap controlled by your AK (doubt you'd farm 4M AP for your next trait at AK1). Blizz already controls the rate at which you obtain your AK, they could do the same with the rate at which you obtain your traits by capping your weekly AP. It should be obvious for Blizzard after 12 years that many people cannot restrain themselves from going all out when there is a grind to be done. Imo the solution is not to leave it to your players to pace themselves.
Not so much AP as mythic+ should have been capped (reasonably high, 10 / 20ish a week). Tbh the lack of a cap has made me play way less this expansion.
Joined a 2day/week Mythic guild (4/10 atm so fairly good players) specificaly because i FINALY had alot more going on IRL than in WoW so i wanted to take it easier... boy did Legion buttfuck that goal. In previos expansion you'd log on 3 x 4 hours a week, raid, and done. Now even tho i raid 10hrs, twice a week i get this constant feeling in the back of my head "you should be online, you should be farming AP - but it's not fun tho - fine go play Witcher then". And not because my guild requires it, but because I feel i don't deserve the spot when there are others who did cap their weapon(s) allready, so far, at my own request i've only been in on the Chronomatic Anomaly Kill.... :-/
Yeah, but make it monthly not weekly.
Subtlety Rogue was an amazing, incredible, unique, and fun spec prior to Legion and BfA

Either AP needs a cap, or AK needs to *not* have a cap.
Because atm now that AK's capped and we're past 35 traits there are no catchup mechanics whatsoever. Get one spec to 54? doing the other two will take just as long. I've given up playing any other spec than fire in this expansion and it's not because I don't want to (I REALLY would like to) but because there's no way I'm going to run even more mythic+ and do even more of the same WQ's in order to cap the second weapon in a couple months, just to notice I don't have legendaries or relics for it and oops 7.2 just came out so need to start grinding fire again. Regardless of whether it's actually competitive or not, fun times.
I'd much, much rather take a weekly cap that's possible with some reasonable time investment than an overall cap that'll take months to reach and make me hate the game until I'm there. Both are just as mandatory because raid tuning atm work so that only people with capped weapons can hope to clear content while current, rest can get nerfed versions later on, not fun at all.
NO CAPS PLEASE! Caps can mean 2 thing: if it's low, you get a heavily timegated process. That sucks. If the cap is high, it will be a target that you MUST hit and everyone will expect you to hit it. That also sucks.
In both cases the game dictates how much you should play. Let people play as much as they want.
With new World Quests populating every few hours, an AP cap would do major harm, but zero good. All it would accomplish is take away the content the most hardcore players have to consume on a daily basis to appease the most casual of players who think it's "unfair" that the people who put in the most hours shouldn't be allowed to be more powerful.
It's the same BS complaint the casual crowd has been making for a decade now. That they should be allowed to put in 10% of the effort as the most seriously players, but have equal access to the gear and content those more serious players have access to. I'm only pushing things slightly above average this expansion, playing the spec I enjoy over the spec that it the best, and finding a guild where I can do that, and I just hit 46 or 47 on my weapon tonight. A far cry from the first person in my guild who hit 54 a couple of weeks ago.
I find I only need to farm AP about 2 days a week. I'll let the Emissary quests build up for 2 or 3 days, then go and clear them and all AP quests on my list. Any other days I log in, like raid days, I'll only spend about an hour before raid hitting the most rewarding AP quests, and maybe some for bloods or felhide. I'm putting in far fewer hours per week now then I was say back in the ICC days of Wrath, and I ignore dungeons the vast majority of the time too.
A progressive cap i think could work, not a weekly one. I hate the idea of not being able to catch up on an alt because of some arbitrary cap forbidding me from ever being on par with others. Also it forces players to play rather oddly, you smash out everything to the cap then log off for the week.
In this case, the cap just progressively increases each week and all gains leading up to that count towards that cap.
AP farmed should have applied to all 3 specs u have instead of just a single spec
Probably should have some sort of soft cap, so people with an hour a day don't end up literally 10 times further behind than those who play 10 hours a day.
It's nice that everything you do counts towards your progress. The focus this expansion on M+ spamming is not a good change in my opinion. Repeating MoS 6-10 for AP is a pretty shitty activity. It doesn't hold up either. Mythic you can run once per week. Raids you can do once per week. M+ is a good system for challenging 5 man content, but the fact you can spam lower levels repeatably for optimum rewards it is at odds with the rest of the game.
You can either have WoW style weekly limits or you can be Diablo, but can't be one thing in one area, and not in another.
Would love an AP cap.
Can go back to filling my free time NOT grinding AP (which is not fun).
I don't think so and Blizz isn't going to implement an AP cap now, regardless of what we think (if there was to be a cap, it would've been implemented from the start of the expansion).
I don't believe it's Blizzard's job to protect the players from themselves - they've tried it before (with limited attempts and such) and I don't recall it ever going well.
