    Upgrading my old rig?

Looking into upgrading my fairly old rig, but current a bit low on cash, so was wondring what would be the most ideal upgrade for me? I myself is think about upgrading my gtx680 to a 1060.
    Thanks

    Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3930K CPU @ 3.20GHz

Video Card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680

    RAM 16 GB

Operating System Microsoft Windows 10 (build 14393), 64-bit

GTX 1060 or RX 480 seems about right. You can oc your cpu for decent gains if you haven't done so already.

680 is still quite a powerful GPU, id say hold off for now and wait until vega launches to see if it shakes up 1070 pricing. 1070 is your real upgrade path tbh.

Depends on the games your play. If wouldnt recommend getting anything lower than GTX 1050 Ti or RX 470 4GB.

Like Thunderball asked, what games do you play? I know that doesn't matter as people always buy other games after the fact but it gives us a idea of a budget.

I wouldnt touch a 1050Ti though, RX470 is much more powerful and only $20 more if you game at 1080p.

That cpu you have is for video professionals, cad users, etc. Its not really a gaming chip.

Do you use your PC for professional work as well?

Playing a bit of everything tbh, so hard to catagorize :P

nah, only using my pc for gaming, bought a complete one about 4 years ago, and that was the cpu it came with. I have no idea if the cpu is outdated at this point? =)

Thats still a really good CPU, just put an overclock in it and you are good for many years. 680 is still also quite fast, wait a couple days see if nvidia launches a 1060ti, otherwise get a 1070 when you feel your 680 is lacking.

It's like earning an achievement. You have been a member for at least 5 years, so you got the 5 year member achievement. There is not an achievement for 6, 7, 8, or 9 years though. Maybe there will be a 10 year member one though. Just like any achievement that is kill 2500 things, once you've killed that many, you get the achievement. The achievement does not change because you killed 3000 or 3500 or 4000. Come on, this is a gaming website. Shouldn't have to explain how achievements work.

Define "low on cash". That differs for each person. For some people "low on cash" is $150, for others it's $900.
What games do you play? Are you experiencing slowdowns? Do you have or want an SSD?
    Super casual.

Ehm around $200 I'd say. I'm am experincing slowdowns from time to time, yes. Got both an SSD and a "regular" drive. Playing a bit of everything, anything from shooters and platforms to rpg's, so hard to define. =)

RX 480 8GB will be a solid upgrade from the GTX 680... nothing you can do with that CPU for $200. There's an RX 480 8GB on Newegg right now for $220 with a $20 rebate, and I'm pretty sure there are (slightly) better deals on other sites too.

So the RX 480 would be better than a 1050Ti or 1060? New to Radeon cards, always been a nvidia fan :P

    Looking at prices in my country, I can afford a rx480 4GB or a 1060 3gb..

The 480 smokes the 1050/Ti, the latter competes with sub-75 watt GPUs while the 480 targets the 130+ watt range. I would tentatively recommend the 480 4GB; I haven't read up on changes (if any) to the 3GB 1060, but it is significantly slower than the 6GB model due to a different core configuration. The 4GB 480 uses the same GPU as the 8GB 480, just less (and slower) RAM.

Though honestly depending on how badly you want a quick upgrade, saving for a 1070 will be a truly worthwhile purchase.

Alright, makes sense. Maybe I'll wait a month or two =)
    Thanks for the response. =)
