What happened to matchmaking?

In the last few days matchmaking works strange. Tank and healer in one team, no tank or healer in second, team with 3 healers and murky against typical tank-healer-3dps team etc. etc. etc. Just one look to see which team win for 100% (no mistakes for now). Just what happened and why?

Tyrande and Tassadar no longer counts as healers for QM matchmaking, but they messed up some other things in the process of implementing that. No words on what they'll do to fix it.

They messed with matchmaking when the wow mount quest came out. When I say messed with they mostly loosened the rules as queues are much shorter now, for me at least.

You may have noticed that Quick Match queues have been quicker than ever recently, and you'd be correct! We've made a number of adjustments in order to improve the matchmaking algorithm to decrease the queue times without sacrificing game quality.

In general, queue times have been reduced by about 50-75%, depending on hero and region. In general, the newest or most popular heroes will still see longer queue times, but even those should be shorter than they would have been (which some players noticed during Lúcio's release, as this change went live just after that patch).

The matchmaker was previously using a rule that would only apply to extreme cases, but these rules were actually being applied to all players, increasing queue time. By lifting these restrictions for most players, we were able to decrease queue times without affecting the quality of matches made.

Here's what changed:
Previously, the matchmaker would "hold" players from getting a match until the players who had been waiting longest found a game. With some careful testing, it was determined that players in normal skill ranges were able to easily find a game without having to hold others. These players will now be released and able to quickly find another match that suits them.

As always, we're continuing to monitor matchmaking feedback and make adjustments. We're planning more improvements for the future, but we wanted to shed light on one of our most recent changes that we've seen players feeling the effects of.

The only thing at the moment that really works for me is playing strong solo laners that can make game decisive moves like Thrall, The Butcher, Nazeebo, Gul'dan and Jaina. My normal favorites just don't work so well with the current matchmaking.

also i know the game doesent have a "TON" of players, but i have 2 friends who play at like 3 am EST and when i would play with them, beginner AI to help them, we would look for 3 more teammates (only one of us would use a free to play char) and we would have to wait 3 mins then be forced with AI teammates
like as i said i know a "TON" of playes dont play but like is there really so little that we cant find 3 people for a beginner AI?

I never played versus AI and the same goes for all the people that I play with so maybe it's just not popular? This is on the EU servers though so not sure how it's on the NA servers. AI is only used (again for me and the people that I know), to do the quests you don't like for QM if you don't want to play ranked or to quickly do an event.

Definitely faster games, but the game quality seems to have gone down. Playing as Tyrande right now gives quite the advantage in QM.

So, this weekend plying just QM, I had some absolutely awful team comps. Such as 3 tank warriors with valla and zeratul vs a team with diablo tyrande and 3 other assassins. All they did was lock me out (as Valla) and kill me in seconds, whether I tried to stay back or not, wait for Zeratul to attempt to kill Jaina and even with muradin building more for dmg than tank, we just couldn't do anything at all. Virtually every angel was full shielded. Anyways, that's just one example, but the group comps have been so weirdly lopsided, I was beginning to wonder why that was; at least now i know.

I find that really weird for US. Whenever I play vs AI to knock the events out or get rid of some quests quick the queues always seem to blow by... mind you that's normally closer to like 7pm EST


EDIT: With the new QM changes that came out hopefully we will see some changes for the better though, fingers crossed.
