Set Gear or higher iLvL Non-Set Gear?

I am struggling to gauge what items to wear because Sims aren't accurate.

    My higher ilvl gear:

    My lower ilvl set gear:

According to Mr Robot, my lower ilvl set gear should produce more DPS due to the set bonus.

Checking for myself after 1 hour of constant dummy bashing, repeating the same rotation, I still can't tell which set is better because I have huge dps fluctuations, from 550k all the way up to 700k; with both gear variations.

I've done 10 rounds each now and the average for both is about 640k. If there is a difference, it seems extremely marginal.

    What to do?

The sims are going to be far more accurate then any dummy bashing, Your going to have dps fluctuations in any testing you do outside of sims try running a really high iteration simc run IMO part looking at the ilvl of both sets I would take the set any day.

You say any day. But I lose 2000 agility in the process, as well as a drop in all other secondary stats, too.

Yea alright like this with 1-2 new items today, the set just dies versus non set

    No set:
    https://www.askmrrobot.com/wow/simul...7837c6322cee46

    830k dps @ 129% Mastery, 34% Critical Strike, 10% Haste, 5% Versatility

    vs

    Set:
    https://www.askmrrobot.com/wow/simul...927c972580d479

    799k dps @ 117% Mastery, 31% Critical Strike, 14% Haste, 6% Versatility

Unfortunately my set is from LFR and it seems it can't compete in M+.

Probably also includes some mobs etc, since single target dummy dps is not really what you need in a M+

I can say this: AMR 2 days ago told me to drop two 890 pieces for two 875 pieces that were normal mode tier pieces. I gained 4 piece set bonus, and I increased my DPS by at least 50k.

Well, depends on what you actually do to be honest. 2P and 4P are pretty strong on bosses in Nighthold, especially 4P should give you a significant boost. In m+ i switch to aoe legendaries combined with my max. item lvl items with mastery/crit/agi. Since FoK becomes our main cp generator, the 2P bonus completely looses its effectiveness. I wouldnt rate 4P as high as in raid Environments either, since it then depends on if you have your bleedings up at all times. It also depends on the level of your m+, how long your enemies do really live and whether you use subterfuge or not. I am macroing my equipment sets and i always switch to max. mastery and max. item lvl items / AoE legendaries for trash and back to standard equipment with 4P + boots + bracers right before boss. Its a matter of one second.
