880 ilvl Face Palm vs 920 ilvl Poten Kick relic. Need help!

Hey. I've just dropped 880 ilvl version of iron Face Palm relic in Eye of Azshara. My currently equipped one is 920 ilvl Potent Kick. I know that brewmasters do not really scale with weapon damage and Face Palm is BiS (especially with the coming changes to Hot Blooded), but is it worth losing 40ilvl on a relic?

For DPS, a Facepalm relic is worth 50+ ilvls.

OP is correct that our abilities are based on AP and not weapon damage and that our weapon scales poorly for giving more AP.

Your weapon ilvl is pretty much worth the same as a big piece (helm/chest/legs) ilvl, so the trait is way more important than the ilvl,

The face palm relic will give you more dps and it's not even close (that's if you play well with combo, because it obviously scales with that)$

Defensively potent kick is a better trait than face palm(if you take the very rough approximation of 20 tps per minutes and you don't have another face palm relic you'll go from 40% to get 2 seconds reduction on brews to 50%, so 1.5*20 instead of 1.4*20=2 seconds of brew reduction per minute, so depending on your haste somewhere beetween 1/10th and 1/7th of a brew per minute, when potent kick is straight up 0.5 brews per minute)

So one is clearly better offensively, and the other clearly better defensively, the ilvl won't change that it's just a bonus, also the nerf to hot blooded won't shift the relic balance at all, hot blooded will still be better than face palm defensively, depending on the situation the best defensive relics will be either hot blooded or potent kick, face palm will remain a mostly offensive relic (the defensive part being nearly the same nature as potent kick but 3 to 5 times weaker)


Edit: do NOT use the simcraft bot, it uses the default apl which is extremely incomplete (and that's kind, it's basically not written), you can use the one in my signature which only works with combo and chest, and for max dps, also the brewmaster simcraft isn't really maintained so traits like stave off don't work, you can fix that fairly easily just adding 25% to your keg smash damage (which is the average increase stave off provides)

This is completely wrong for monks. We do NOT scale with weapon damage, so traits are the only thing you should look at on a relic. Face palm over potent kick every single day of the week.

But we do scale with AP and secondary stats. And it's a pretty big stat loss. I think it'll be a defensive and MAYBE a dps loss losing so many ilvls.

Most of the ilvl on tanking weapon goes into primary stat and weapon damage and thoes are quite weak for brewmasters atm.

Defensively face palm is on par with potent kick, maybe a little bit behind depending on how often you TP, put dps wise an 850 face palm relic would still do much more damage than a 925 potent kick relic.

agility is our highest dps stat by far though, id personally take the potent kick relic.

Facepalm is 50 weapon ilvls for dps wich is like playing with an extra relic.
