    It's not torture.

Maybe you should be using it. Yes, prisons are for punishment. Crime should be punished harshly.

You are actually right on that. Apologies for the black-and-white generalization. Unfortunately, both former groups are larger than they should, larger even as of late.

You just know these people in this thread are the same that would come to the defense of any US college rapecases.

Not going to happen, sorry, and no, there's a clear statute what prison regime is supposed to be. Hint: it's not punishment but re-socialisation.

It clearly is about punishing offenders. Otherwise you wouldn't be locking them up and depriving them of their freedom.

Why are you linking something in some language that I cannot read?

There have been 90 rapes where the perpetrator has been an Iraqi national (up from 45 in the previous year). 560 rapes where the perpetrator has been a Finnish national (including people with an immigrant background). There are 9000 Iraqi nationals in Finland, 5,3 million Finnish nationals. With a quick round up maths that means Iraqi nationals are roughly 100 times more prone to do sexual crimes than Finnish citizens.
Those numbers would be more accurate if you would only include 20-30 year old finnish males compared to the 20-30 year iraqi males in finland and also factor in that most sexual assaults and harassments still go unreported and are done by the local populace themselves. Right now you are also factoring in women and children in your calculations.

The rate would still be higher among iraqis, but not by that much.

I'd be lying if i said i was surprised. If only they were as transparent with the figures in Sweden.

The amount of rapes by all foreign nationals have gone up 42% and the amount of sexual assaults 153% in 2016.

And some people wonder why Middle Eastern people are unwanted here.... they are a serious safety hazard. You can scream racist all you want, but the numbers are there.
The problem is that some people think that everyone from the middle east is a serious safety hazard. Thats simply not true however.
It's like saying that 99% of all rapes are committed by men and therefore all men are dangerous. It gets silly.

Nobody said prison isn't punishment. The purpose of the prison time however shouldn't be to use it for further torturing or physically punishing inmates the latter being prohibited by law and constitution actually.

It's a really nasty grey area really. They do come from a different culture so going to prison to be rehabilitated/have their freedom taken as it nowadays, wouldn't it be a pointless exercise? Firstly, their original culture is potentially quite harsh so the legal system might be a joy to be in and secondly they aren't really children who are at a stage to be reformed or to learn, they are adults who most likely are set in their ways of they's say the Eastern cultures as much as the legal system of Western cultures trying to enforce their way. Neither side is likely going to compromise.

Personally, I think they would really be subjected to a good set of tests upon entry which subjects their ideologies from let's say Eastern culture such as woman being under par compared to the Western culture they want to enter. With all our 'civilised' and 'developed' world I'm sure we have psychologists that can rustle up a good test and translators who have successfully or want to be in the Western culture to make it readable.

Only when it gets to late and people start to take justice into their own hands will people realize the gravity of the mistake they made...

Since when? And why suddenly a magic rise? Did the immigrant population stay the same or did it change?

Again why the sudden rise? Your first source is in finnish and your second source is not available to read. But in general there are always groups who are more prone to crime then others, there are no news there really. Interesting question is why this is the case.

Small correction to that: adults are not set in their ways either, unless they willfully remain so. For example my grandmother. Let's go back 30 years and ask her about gays, and it's not something great to hear. Today, and for many years already? She's come to respect them as equals, deserving all the same rights as everyone else.

Times were different back then, and they are different now. Peoples opinions change over time, if they are open for change. If my 75 year old grandmother can change her views, when she sees the old ones weren't all that good, but were par for the course in those times, then anyone can.
