"Hey look at those torches, it's super creepy in a Nazi Fascism kinda way."

"Those kids burning McDonalds, smashing rocks through business windows, throwing M90s, and calling for dead cops are just expressing their right to free speech."

I can see the difference, can you?

    These people are from Germany?

Yeah, that is the exact definition of whataboutism.

As for your last comment... you are clearly being obtuse, because you have no real defense of it.

I can't tell if you're suggesting all Germans are Nazis, or that only Germans can be Nazis

    Why not oppose both?

I imagine being black and seeing the stupid thing is a nice reminder once in awhile that "Hey! Remember that time about 150 years ago when your town/state/entire geographical location in the U.S decided that you were property, and they'd die for the right to own you? Isn't great your town felt that was worthy of a statue in a public park?" probably grates on you a little.

But hey, I'm can actually empathize with people. Seems to be a dying trait nowadays.
People do that every day in Egypt but people don't go around petitioning to tear down the Egyptian monuments.

If all they;re doing is standing around, then its whatever.

That said, I will not sympathize with people that think hanging around a person like Spencer is ok. Spencer is an utter prik, and people with his views are despicable.

and as an FYI, I generally oppose tearing down monuments. Except that battle of Liberty hill one, cause memorializing a bunch of racist cop killers is bad mmmk (and its not an actual important point in history, unlike the Civil War).

Can't tell if you don't know what a real "Nazi" is or just the popular definition.

The North did way more fucked up shit during the war than the Confeds ever did, but you'll never hear about it since I guess the Civil War was for blacks and blacks freedom or something I guess now.
That's because history is written by the victors.

The OP might as well be "protesters are wearing shoes" for all the difference it'll make. Until those torches (or shoes for that matter) start flying through windows into buildings or into cars, then maybe all this will be newsworthy enough.

Are you saying it wasn't about slavery?

Lee was a rrespected man, but he chose to lead the army for a cause based on wanting to treat people as property.

To be fair, while Northern PoW prisons were absolutely awful and often maliciously so (as opposed to ANdersonville's incompetence), murdering black soldiers because you dont regard them as human worthy of PoW protection is about as low as you're gonna get. Jefferson approved of this.

(although Ive argued about Lee in a more positive light in a previous thread too)

I agree with you concerning Spencer. He is not much different than any other race baiter though except for one thing. And that one thing really shouldn't matter.

Grant and Lee both went to West Point together.

I grew up in PWC; Fredericksburg and Loudon were Hicksville back then, hell western PWC was pretty much all farmland up to mid 90's.

You mention humor in seeing the state so divided, yet many states in the area are the same way. Maryland is split East and West, West Virginia is basically the Eastern Panhandle vs. the rest of the state, hell PA is split 3 ways; NE, SE and Western PA all have different ideologies (excluding the odd Amish/Mennonite pockets in central PA.

Its almost as if state borders are just arbitrary lines and you can't equate the same beliefs to all the people living within those boundaries. Hell even good old "Commyfornia" has its split with the Northern parts of the state being more rural and conservative in relation to their SoCal contemporaries.

On principle I agree. The statue doesn't seem offensive to me, but then again I'm not an African American living in that community, so I don't know how I'd feel. I suspect the majority don't care if its there either way. A handful though are offended and then you have the handful of crazies jumping to defend the statue.
As a black person who went to a middle school named after a kkk member, it only bothers you if you let it.
