How do you cancel a back button click?

This easy if you're left clicking the back icon, you can simply move the mouse away and release if you change your mind.

But what about when using a mouse with back and forward buttons on the side? Say you've pressed the mouse's own back button and are holding it down and then you change your mind and now you don't want to go back. How can you make it so that when you release the button the browser won't go back? Are you already committed or is there a way?

    ALT TAB
    CTRL TAB

Anything that causes the current tab to lose focus.

    Tested on Firefox

Press forward on the mouse to go back to where you were, I guess? Loads too fast for you to cancel it, unless you're on something pretty slow. Could always tab out, too.

Cheers I also found another way, right click and move into the menu, or just right click.

    Damn doesn't work in Firefox.

You might be able to remapt those buttons to do something or nothing in the mouse app (logitech or w/e? not sure what brand of mouse you have) or check the mouse windows settings.

Hold down back button (Thumb button for me), move mouse to desktop, left click anywhere on desktop, release back button. If full screen, hit windowed button, then desktop, then release
