Is there an option in the ui that allows you to automatically target the closest mob in front of you when you click an ability without making a macro? Eg. auto targeting with fireball when farming without tabbing or clicking on mobs.

Without a macro, with a spell like fireball, no, I don't believe so.

I use /startattack in macros for all my abilities that I would want to cast. Even that sucks at times (since the tab targeting changes).

I do too and don't have enough macro space for classes like pally and druid.
