Turn old Dell E510 into gaming system (Newbie)

I was recently given a Dell E510 that runs windows XP. What would I need to do to this machine to turn it into a gaming rig? Would I be better off buying a new system? I'm in the US.
Processor: Intel Pentium D 2.66 GHz
    HDD: 160 GB
Power supply: 500 Watt I believe.

    Any input would be appreciated.

No lol. That wouldnt even boot a lot of games, that CPU is ancient.

Best route for cheapest gaming PC is buying a business dell/hp from ebay for ~150 bucks that has a recent core i5 and adding a gtx 1050 for ~100.

Would I need to swap out the power supply and cooling system?

No. The GTX 1050 just uses power from the PCI-E Lane, no additional power is needed. These cards were basically made as a drop in upgrade to builds without a GPU. As for cooling, still no. Your CPU will not be generating any more heat, in fact by not using the on-die GPU it may generate less heat, so no need to upgrade that cooler. The 1050s are pretty low-end budget cards and don't really generate that much heat either, so additional case fans would not really be needed.

Just a heads up this just went on sale: (159.99 with promo code EMCSRGBF2)

Looks like it has an ivy bridge or higher i5. All you would need to do is add this card:

Sub 300 would get you a legit gaming PC. Id add another 4gb of stick of ram down the line, but 4gb suffices for most games.
