Swastikas and nazi symbols-- I think it's time to get over it

When I was a kid, there was this cartoon in which the swastika was used-- an asian symbol for an asian world ( the cartoon was naruto ). In the West they changed the Swastika into another symbol because the nazis used it ( in reality it's a symbol originating from Asia, much older than the 20th century ).

Same goes for the Nazi salute ( the hand gesture ). Anything alluding to it gets treated like Satan.

I mean, it's been such a long time since then. Why in the world do people still get triggered over it? The majority of people who were alive in the '30-'40s are dead and they sure as hell ain't on the Internet. Why so much censorship?

It's like people fear that if you go in front of the mirror and heil 3 times you'll summon the goddamn Red Skull.

I mean, nazis are pretty much as close to actual satan as we've come in the modern world; if you wanna run around flying the nazi flag and doing the nazi salute and repeating nazi slogans you can't really be surprised when people think you're a nazi.

    Nah, fuck that.

and I mean, the swastika is primarily identified with nazism in the west so I assume westernizations of media such as naruto remove it to avoid confusion

I've done black face for Halloween before. The only people who give a shit are white people who's opinions don't matter because of their poor mental condition.

Considering that the Svastika is a several thousand year old symbol I see no problem in it being used as long as it isn't for nefarious means.

But using nazi imagery just for the sake of it without any sort of substance really seems pointless.

Always easy to say, "get over it when." when you are not the recipient of the brutality related to it.

People cant even get over nigger... you really expect them to let swastikas back on stuff even though they are religious symbols?

yeah try telling that to a jew or anyone who has any knowledge of history and they'll tell you to go fuck yourself. that's how you can get over it.

Unlikely people are going to 'get over it'. No matter their origin, Nazi used symbolism is now forever associated with what most consider to be humanity's poorest display.

You say, "It's been such a long time since then," but when talking in such a way about historical events as a rule of thumb if there are people alive who can talk about it, it was not that long ago. Also, some of those people are on the internet. That's silly.

It's interesting to note that Satan himself has evolved since its debut from the Middle Ages. He went From a monster to a representative of the human psyche and our darker half. As for the nazis I'm surprised that history is taught at least here in the USA that nazism is much more threatening then the soviet socialism that occurred at the same time. Yet both were responsible for killing a good chunk of Europe and the world. I say this as someone who took a special course in holocaust and genocide.

Over a long enough time, history has a general habit of acknowledging the advancement a country or culture gave the world, while ignoring all the terrible things said country or culture did.

I don't think Nazi-era Germany existed long enough to fall into this category.

Because groups of ignorant people don't get to decide how other people should legitimately feel. Just because some have the luxury and choose to be ungrateful and disrespectful. Doesn't mean the rest should forget what those symbols mean.

    No.

Hitler ruined the swastika and the Chaplin stache.

These things, and klan robes and blackface and the rest of hate and discrimination can remain in the dustbin of history. Unforgiven, and unforgotten. Give these things leeway and we give them room to return.

Was the swastika once a religious symbol of good fortune? Sure. It isn't anymore. As I said. Hitler ruined it.

    I think so too.

When such symbols lose their meaning, they also lose their meaning to the people using them in unsavoury ways.

People don't really care about what something used to mean, they care about what it means now.

Example, saying "All lives matter" would have many people agreeing as common sense 20 years ago. But now, apparently it's racist to say. Obviously it isn't racist, given the definition of racism, but you get my point.

I used to watch Karasu Tengu Kabuto as a kid.
They had this as a spaceship:

It was a very cool anime.
Apparently many people protested, and they stopped showing it.

I don't know if we can "get over it".
